The Woodlands is regularly recommended to visiting supporters for Harrogate Town matches and is less than a 10-minute walk from the ground on Wetherby Road, making it a convenient pre- or post-match stop. The pub shows live sport (including Sky Sports and TNT Sports), so it’s suitable for catching early/late kick-offs around your game. It also serves a full food menu with set kitchen hours, useful for a hot meal before heading to the turnstiles. Cask ale drinkers can expect named regulars like Theakston Best Bitter and Timothy Taylor Landlord. Overall, it’s a practical, away-friendly base close to the stadium with sport on TV and food available on matchdays.
First visit on a Saturday football day busy dinner 🍽 time and it was all hands on deck for the staff as it was chocka. Plenty of people eating and the menu looked good with plenty of choice 😋 and specials on every day. Good selection of beers 🍻 and we even came back in after the game and it was still busy, a good local 👍 pub.
I visited the Woodlands prior to the football game between Harrogate Town and Tranmere Rovers. When I first arrived at the pub, it was fairly quiet, with just a small group of Tranmere supporters and maybe one or two local couples. I ordered a pint of Timothy Taylor landlord. I have to say that this was genuinely head and shoulders above other pints of this beer that I’ve tasted. It is a nice beer but I think they must look after their pumps very well in this place, as it was noticeably nicer than I have had at other establishments. I thought I’d get something to eat so I ordered a steak. I asked for the steak to be well done. This came surprisingly quickly and it was just as I would have liked. There was a healthy portion of peas and some nice chunky chips to accompany the steak (in addition to a tomato). This was all very good. The pub started to get busy, as a lot of Tranmere supporters decided to head in here before the game. I thought the staff coped very well with the fast increase in customers. They were all very patient and good mannered, despite the pub being full and there being a queue at the bar for service. There was a really good atmosphere in the pub as everyone was there excited for the match. Everyone was just happy to be there. There was another game on TV, that of Blackburn v Wrexham which provided some background entertainment for the large number of customers. It was a really nice experience that I had in the Woodlands. Although I would usually have baulked at the prices if this had been somewhere like a city centre, the manner of the staff and the quality of the food and drink meant that this was a perfect place for a pre match get together and for the Rovers supporters to get together for the first time in a new year.
Landlord was friendly, great choice on the menu and food was tasty. Enjoyed our visit and prices were good. Thank you
Food was standard pub menu. Me and the kids ordered burgers as they had run out of fish and chips. Burgers were really dry. Wife ordered an pie which she said was nice.
Came here as a child often and didn't come for about 8-10 years up until a family meal in March and then again in October. Lovely, proper food! Piping hot, brilliant portion sizes, and decently priced! Deffo gives me more middle aged - old people vibes by the interior and staff, but still a lovely place for a decent meal out :)
