Town-centre and 650m from Harrogate railway station, Hales Bar is an easy pre-match meet-up before heading to Harrogate Town by bus or on foot. The pub has TVs and shows major events on terrestrial channels, and local media even tipped it as a place to catch Euro 2024, so England/FA Cup games on BBC/ITV can be watched here. Real-ale drinkers get rotating cask options such as Daleside, Rooster’s and Draught Bass, making it a solid spot for a pint before or after the match.
According to the bartender, the pub is the oldest one in town! By reading the history of the pub, stated it opened around 1766 wowwwwww! I really do love the vibe of this pub, everyone here is super friendly, the staff is incredible, I had such a wonderful time here. Many thanks, and hope to visit again!
Easily the best pub in Harrogate. Great mix of characters and plenty of atmosphere. Well-maintained historic features and good range of drinks.
Feels like stepping back in time but in a good way. Great beer, great staff. Was made very welcome. Loved it.
A great local pub - the oldest in Harrogate. It still has the working gas burners, for lighting ones' cigars, on the bar! Lighting is subdued, adding to the cosy, comfortable atmosphere. There was a reasonable choice of beers, including a hand pulled 'Best' and a traditional pale, which we enjoyed. Seating is booth-style, facing the bar, with some small tables with stools. Although both of our visits over the weekend were fairly brief, we would certainly visit again when back in Harrogate.
Came for a quick drink with friends. First visit. Really nice cosy pub. Two bars, one very quiet and the other very busy. Not a huge place but we were able to get a table. The busy bar was much more warmer, welcoming and more interesting. Very good choice of drinks at reasonable prices. Service was friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.
