The Herbert Wells is a popular pre-match spot for both home and away supporters due to its central location in Woking and proximity to the train station. It's a spacious JD Wetherspoon pub offering a wide selection of real ales, including Greene King Abbot and Sharp's Doom Bar, as well as guest beers like Olicana IPA and Moongazing. The menu caters to various dietary preferences, offering gluten-free, non-dairy, and vegan options. The pub's welcoming atmosphere and affordability make it a convenient and comfortable choice for fans before heading to the nearby Laithwaite Community Stadium.
My only hangout when I land in London Gatwick Airport. This pub is super friendly and provides a great atmosphere to relax with a pint. The food is above average but more importantly easy on the pockets with a Monday promotion of 3 small for £10 iso £14.99. Gets very packed on the weekends though so go early to get a seat if you have a large party.
Not as big as it looks from the outside. Pub is wide but not deep. Most seats were taken as we arrived at 5pm on a Friday & the mixed bag of customers were having a meal and drinks as the weekend began. The pub noise was building as the alcohol flowed but you would expect that on any Friday. Pub is in a good location & based on the ground floor. Some outdoor seats at the front of the premises. Stella is £4.40 a pint & 3 small plates are £14.99 which is average for the area. Pub is dedicated to Herbert G Wells who wrote War of the Worlds. Look for the 7.6 metre sculpture in Green Passage depicting the aliens.
Went for a lunch date on 15/1/25, we ordered a chicken burger each, as well as 2 portions of the chicken strips and a couple of drinks. The atmosphere wasn’t too noisy but definitely had a few customers nearing the edge of intoxication, otherwise was pleasant and cosy. Our drinks and the chicken strips/my date’s burger arrived within 10 minutes, which we thought was very good service, though now looking back on it may have been the beginning of our troubles. My burger arrived a couple minutes later, and before we knew it we had finished our food. Not too long after, my date had to go to the bathroom and was in there for quite a while. After we had left we walked around town for a bit, where my stomach begun to disagree with something. I spent the next couple hours in hot flushes, going between bouts of nausea and stomach pain. I spent a significant portion of the rest of my date in the toilets of the local Superbowl. Once I was home, I was told by my date they felt the same after they our meal. Now I’m a fan of the fast customer service, however I am not pleased at the cost of it being made ill. I would say be wary of how quick your food takes, especially if it’s chicken. I won’t be coming here again but it’s best to let others know about this experience.
Really impressed with this branch. Warm atmosphere inside, despite the rush hour business. What really impressed me was the attentiveness of the staff - bringing food/drinks to the table promptly, proactively clearing finished items. And with a smile! Excellent value for money in an expensive Surrey commuter town. Hearty portions too. What's not to like?
Opens nice and early at 8am and just order what you want at the counter and tell them your table number. Food comes out quite quickly and breakfast is really good and coffee and tea are self help and free flow. There are many locals there in the morning having their breakfast and reading the morning papers.
