📍 0.5 miles from The Shay Stadium
The Big Six Inn is a traditional, multi-roomed pub located approximately a 30-minute walk from The Shay Stadium, making it a viable option for both home and away fans seeking a pre-match pint. The pub is known for its selection of real ales, including Old Mill Traditional Bitter and four guest ales, which rotate regularly. Its historic setting, complete with open fires and a games room, provides a cozy atmosphere for fans to gather. While the pub does not advertise showing live football, its proximity to the stadium and reputation among local beer enthusiasts make it a noteworthy stop for matchday patrons.
(Dec 2025) I have wanted to go here for years; so glad I did. It’s the kind of pub you can turn up with mates, or go on your own, and end up taking to EVERYBODY. Stay away if you don’t like talking to people. Great service. Wonderful memorabilia, beer choice, and those lovely wooden panels. From where I was sitting, there was NO TV in sight. Absolutely bliss. Highly recommend the Pommes 🍎 beer. What tops it off the most? Arrival via a typical mid-street. If you want ONE reason to support local businesses, or are struggling with ‘Why?’ many pubs closing down, the BIG SIX is one reason why we cannot let the British pubs to slowly fade away. It’s hard for many to make any kind of profit. The Big Six deserves every penny. If you ware visiting Halifax, or attending the Piece Hall for a music gig, 🎶 you won’t regret spending a couple of hours here first - you can thank me later with a ‘thumbs up’ …
Probably one of the best pubs I've ever visited (and I've been to a few...) - extremely friendly, very reasonably priced, and well kept beer, what more could you ask for?
Another hidden gem 💎 The place still has such a great vibe in these times.... visit please...it won't disappoint you 🙌🏼👏🏼
One of the best pubs in the north. Hidden away, mid-terrace, on the outskirts of the town, it’s definitely worth taking the time to find it. Always have a good selection of very well kept ales. Old fashioned interior, with several separate rooms, nice beer garden for the summer
A marvellous welcoming traditional pub in an urban terrace, with personable staff and very friendly locals. When I visited, the Big Six had a very good range of real ales, and all were in top condition. I'm very much looking forward to my next visit to Halifax, West Yorkshire.
