For matchdays, Spyglass & Kettle (BH6 3PW) is useful if you're watching on TV rather than going to the ground. The pub advertises live sport and Sky Sports, and its listing notes sports TVs—so you can catch early or late kick-offs. It also serves food daily with long serving hours and opens from 8am on weekends (earlier on weekdays), which helps for pre- or post-match meals and meeting up before games.
Restaurant looks pretty run down from outside but nicer inside. My husband had lamb shank Sunday roast and I had the vegetarian Wellington roast, plus we shared a bottle of wine. Food was tasty and good value at under £60. The place was busy (book ahead) but staff were quick and attentive. Only criticism is my wellington pastry was overcooked but as I was only eating the inside of it (am on a diet right now) it was fine. Would recommend.
Pleasant establishment on cliff road. Lots of seating, indoors and outdoors. We came for Sunday lunch. Lots of empty reserved tables. We were there for about an hour and a half and most of those reserved tables of stayed empty. Roast beef was tough. This place used to have a large varied menu but it has shrunk considerably. The quality of the food was OK, but again has decreased from years past. Staff is friendly.
Well located for the beach. Overall good experience for a 2/3 star pub hotel. Rooms a bit tired but bed & shower clean & comfortable. Excellent breakfast and good choice of evening meals and drinks . Good value for money for the location compared to other local offerings. Definitely will stay here again
Arrived for Sunday lunch, it's a busy place but managed to find a table, 1 turkey roast, 1 turkey & beef roast, 2 drinks, 2 deserts just under £55, one of the drinks a passion fruit spritz cocktail, as it was flat and not very nice the bar staff changed. With the turkey roast you get 2 slices of turkey and some very nice veg, with the turkey & beef a slice of each, for me the beef was a bit fatty. Both deserts were lovely with proper custard. Overall really quite nice perhaps the only observation I'd make is the gravy, cauliflower, cranberry jelly & horseradish all came in ramekins served on the plate which took up a bit of room on the plate.
My son took me to this sea side pub for lunch and we both had the turkey & beef Sunday roast. Even though every table was booked our meal arrived so fast! I loved the vegetables, very generous broccoli, nice chunky carrots, perfect parsnips and loads of peas, also cauliflower cheese. The meat was so very tender and soft. I loved the horseradish (what a kick it's got). Also it had cranberry sauce and a big jug of gravy. Staff were very nice.
