Located in the heart of York's historic Shambles, Ye Old Shambles Tavern is a popular spot for both locals and visitors. It offers a selection of locally sourced food, including hearty options like pies and loaded fries, and a variety of drinks, including cask ales and craft beers. The pub hosts live music from Wednesday to Sunday, providing a lively atmosphere for patrons. While not specifically noted for catering to football fans, its central location makes it a convenient choice for those attending events at nearby venues. :contentReference[oaicite:9]{index=9}
Didn't have any food so I cant comment on that but had a few beers the staff were excellent. Very friendly and chatty. Knowledge of the local beer was great. Decor is oldey worldey brilliant the selection of beers is fantastic. Bar seating area small and intimate but they do have others seating at the back of the tavern live music played there regular A pint on beer ranges from £5-£7 each depending on the strength thats as of 5/5/26 Fish and chips nice slightly overcooked fish for my liking but still nice the minted musty peas were lovely. 8.5/10 Bacon blue burger burger slightly dry a little over done for me but overall would order again skin on chips nice and salad is salad. 7.5/10
Absolutely love this place and make it a regular when we are in York. Situated right in the Shambles with a covered seating area at the back over looking the Shambles Market. Lovely old quirky building as youd expect with a great selection of beers, ciders and local gin. The food is great and generous portions from lunches to a sharing bowl of dirty fries. The staff are great and very friendly and cant wait to be back. Try the Shambles Dark! Great even in the sudden downpour too!
We had a short visit to the tavern. The drinks we had were both really good. The Grinch sour and Rhubarb cider. The vibe of the place is really nice. Seating available indoor , outside and on the first floor.
A lovely small bar. Been a few times. Jorvic remembers getting free sandwiches in the back room just after they opened. We sat at the bar in the small front room. A good chin wag with the other drinkers. Great real ale selection on handpump plus huge selection of cans and bottled beer.
Just called in on the off chance. Such friendly service and a great range of locally sourced drinks. Was an absolute treat to listen a an intimate live music session. Keep up the amazing work and good luck for the festive season!
