Had to change out two chairs and they were dirty. Main Steak medium requested - came very very over cooked and dry, not seasoned not rested. Pie filling was just a flavour lessmush, on top pastry that you could not get thought with a knife, mash not seasoned and bland. Veg-carrots like mush, the rest of the veg raw or blanched at best. Onion rings from the freezer and not cooked through. For such a small menu how you managed to get it that wrong beggars belief. Dessert Desserts were good, we could not fault them A very disappointing meal, maybe review the kitchen staff as clearly they cannot cook, even vegetables! I can see why you offer 40% off! Waitress was great, could not fault her, friendly and pleasant. The only part that bumped the score up!
Great First Visit – We’ll Definitely Be Back! Tried The Saxon King for the first time today and what a pleasant surprise! The pub is modern, well laid out, and full of character. It was busy but had a really nice atmosphere. There’s a good choice of drinks, and the food was absolutely delicious. We asked for potatoes without herbs or garlic, and the kitchen happily made them fresh for us — a really nice touch. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and with the 40% discount on mains, it made our meal even better value. A big thank you to our server, Vicky, and all the team for looking after us so well. Highly recommend this place — we’ll definitely be returning!
My partner and I have tried this setting multiple times on a Sunday to try the roast dinner, and every single time we arrived, roast dinners were no longer being served. Last Sunday we decided to try one more time, however we booked an earlier table to avoid missing the roast dinner. We were disappointed when we arrived at 2pm to the roast already being out? Only a couple of hours after the pub had opened? We decided to stay and have lunch from the normal menu. We waited around 45 mins for food, even though it wasn’t busy whatsoever. Granted my partner enjoyed his sausage and mash, I however was extremely disappointed with the mushroom risotto. It had the consistency of soup, it was grey and not appetising whatsoever, with no attempt to make it look more presentable, plus the taste just wasn’t very good at all. Waitress was lovely and the pub has an okay drink selection. I would not be coming back for the food.
We went to The Saxon King for lunch and just had to leave a review for Lulu! She was absolutely amazing from start to finish — so friendly, attentive and genuinely lovely to chat to. Nothing was too much trouble and she made us feel really welcome throughout our visit. We actually decided to give the pub another try after a previous visit where we were served by an older lady who unfortunately came across quite rude we believe she was management, so we weren’t sure what to expect this time. We’re so glad we came back because Lulu completely changed our experience. She’s a real credit to the team and we honestly couldn’t recommend her enough. Thank you Lulu for making our lunch so enjoyable — we’ll definitely be back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊
We arrived and despite being extremely busy as they were hosting a wake as well as the usual Friday evening custom, we were seated quite quickly. Our waitress Beth was friendly, very attentive and managed our expectations over wait times. The food was excellent and the service top notch.
