King John's Tavern is a popular pre-match spot for both home and away supporters due to its proximity to the Suit Direct Stadium and welcoming atmosphere. It offers a range of food options, including pub classics and daily deals, and serves a variety of beers, including local ales and international lagers. The tavern's location near the town centre and public transport links adds to its appeal for matchday visitors.
Dreadful food. We ordered barbecued chicken wings. We received chicken goujons. When the mistake was pointed out the server simply ignored us and walked off. The goujons were inedible. I find it hard to believe that an eating establishment can serve an inedible cheese toasty but they managed it. Chips were soggy. Nothing to like about the food at all. A complete waste of money. The bar staff were indifferent and do not seem to use such pleasantries as please and thank you; smiling and welcoming customers doesn't seem to be in the bar staff's remit. OK for a quick drink as there is a good atmosphere but the place is pretty dirty and the tables are never cleaned between customers. Response: Firstly, we ordered barbecued chicken wings at the bar and we were not informed by your bar staff that you no longer serve them, which merely exemplifies the indifference to the customers mentioned in my review. Secondly, I left my napkin critique on a number of dirty plates on the bar as your server chose to completely ignore us. No one spoke to me when I did so (it wasn't particularly busy). Why did you, as the manager, not then come to speak to us? Presumably, it is simply easier to ignore customer complaints since you seemingly have a great many of them nowadays. Lastly, it is very bad management to respond to legitimate reviews with passive-aggressive rudeness. It would be far better if you spent the time cleaning the tables and menus.
Cheap and cheerful bar with some ales and reasonable priced food, some of which is excellent. Edit. My silly mistake, didn't register the New Era as I have had it and I was focused on looking for new beers. Definitely worth popping back in to check out the beers and I will again soon. Ye, back in today and three new beers in. Great rotation of beer selection. Doh. Back in today and had food for the first time. Great value and very tasty. Also I have had some excellent beers in here, lots of Vaux and Rudgate lately.
Lovely Wetherspoons with delicious hot food and cups of tea aplenty. Very polite and efficient staff. Did enjoy the atmosphere also
