📍 1.4 miles from Brunton Park
Multiple club away-fan guides list The Five Alls as a pre-match option for visiting supporters, highlighting it alongside the Brown Jug and Norwood Arms. While it isn’t a short stroll from Cheltenham Town’s ground, it’s within a fair walking distance and offers a neutral meet-up spot. CAMRA/WhatPub also notes it’s close to bus routes, which helps with getting to the stadium. With a published food menu (small plates and Sunday roast), it works for pre- or post-match meals. Beer choice is solid too, with rotating cask ales and mainstream draughts reported.
My sister & niece organised a weekend away in Cheltenham for my 60th & they tried to cram in as much as possible, including a meal in Mowgli on our first night (which was great) and a 7 mile walk through Bourton & the slaughters, via a trip to Clarkson's cider brewery. The final visit was to the Five Alls in Bath Road. When my niece told me about the concept, I was pretty sceptical to be honest: tapas style Sunday roast, surely that's just an excuse for small portions? I couldn't have been more wrong! The deal: you pick your meat or veggie options & augment with as many sides as you want, then share everything. We went for pork, with crackling, and slow cooked beef & lamb; the sides include 3 cheese cauliflower, triple cooked roasties, pigs, stuffing, cabbage with chorizo & honey and cumin parsnips. All were beautifully cooked. There was even a teapot, yes a teapot of gravy. We were quite near the kitchen & I've got to say, I've never seen such a calm team, given how busy it was; they worked like a well oiled machine, who seemed to be really enjoying what they were doing. In a brief lull between orders, they looked over at our table to see if we were enjoying it, so we gave them a thumbs up & they seemed genuinely pleased we were enjoying ourselves. The service was excellent too. Given there were 5 of us, plus we shared 2 puddings, the bill was £118, which was really good value. All in all, a very pleasant way to finish my birthday weekend & it certainly left me with a great impression of the pub & Cheltenham! Just a shame I live 157 miles away! 😭
We visited to try their Sunday lunch - the slow braised beef was so tender and tasty, cooked to perfection! All of the sides were delicious, potatoes were super crispy on the outside and fluffy on the outside - how they should be!
At the Five Alls in Cheltenham, the Sunday lunch is equal parts a meal and a worthy ritual. We walked in, our stomachs grumbling from a busy morning, ready for a feast. The menu hits all the right notes: Roast Pork with Apple Sauce, Roast Chicken with Bread Sauce, Slow Braised Beef with Horseradish, and a Lentil and Nut Roast that respects the needs of the vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free folks - but we didn’t have any with us this time. You pick your meat and then the menu lists all the sides you’d want for you to pick and order separately. We were a group of inquisitive and ravenous souls, so we grabbed one of everything and threw in a Yorkshire Pudding each for good measure. The Roast Pork said with crackling, but it hadn’t crackled, a minor crime given the promise on the menu, but when the flavours on the whole are this good, you don’t hold a grudge for long. I started with a cold beer, a nod to tradition, but then we moved on to a bottle of Orange Wine that paired like a dream with our mains. The vibe was laid-back, but the food was seriously delicious. This place was recommended as a recently discovered high point, and now I’m passing on that recommendation to you. The Five Alls is a nice pub in a central location, and a place I’ll be craving like Pavlov’s dog every Sunday. I’ll be back, and next time, I better getting that crackling!
Really very good late Sunday lunch. The tall guy in charge of service was excellent, throughout. Compliments to the Chef and the kitchen staff – the lamb and the beef were absolutely perfectly cooked, the roast potatoes were standout – and pigs in blankets and Yorkshire Pudding could not be faulted. Everything put in front of us was very good. We shall return!
The staff were friendly and it was fairly busy. The menu looked great on paper, however, we were fairly disappointed, we asked for the buffalo fries to be cooked more and the manager said that the fryer could only cooked them to barely cooked, some were still hard inside. Food left too long on the pass and arrived cool. The pudding was really nice. All in all a pleasant evening.
