📍 0.8 miles from Brunton Park
City-centre bar/restaurant close to Carlisle railway station, making it a handy meet-up before or after Brunton Park. The club’s away-fan guide says visiting supporters can generally use any pub in Carlisle except the Caledonian and Beehive, so this is a neutral option. It serves food daily (typically until 9pm), useful for pre-match meals, and offers a solid tap list including cask Loweswater Gold plus rotating guest beers, giving groups a range of choices.
We popped in for some lunch, it's always busy so best to book ahead if you can. Nice venue, staff were great and reasonably priced. The 'Duke Burger' might just have been the best burger I've ever had!
I do love this place, my first stop whenever I cross the border. Great beer from the likes of Allendale & Beaverton, while the food is immense. Later in the evening they do a fine Old Fashioned as well. Top place.
Beautiful interior, well thought out decor, friendly staff that looked after us without fault. Great atmosphere. The menu ticked most boxes with a nice selection to choose from. However the food was ok, average at best. The Thai red beef curry melted in your mouth with none fatty chunks of beef, but could have had more flavour. I'm sure it was microwaved as the sauce was watery from being frozen, the rice was bland with a hint of coconut. The steak was fantastic! The burgers were dissapointing as they were not squashed flat enough, so when cooked they shrank making them too small for the bun & too tall to get your mouth over. Avoid the extortionate spicy wedges, they were terrible & massively overpriced for what they were! Overall it was quite good, overpriced by about £4 a dish compared to a good pub meal which I've had better. Would I return again? Yes for the flat iron steak, atmosphere & friendly staff who were exceptional.
Every bite we were looking at each other and going woah! We ordered the sausage and mash, fried haddock from the starter menu, then red curry beef with rice and Zinger burger. Sausage and mash, perfect combination of crispy sausage, smooth mash and tasty sauce. Crispy haddock is fresh, battered evenly and melts in my mouth. Red curry is delicious, beef is soft and rice is so flavourful with coconut and perfect amount of spice in the sauce. Zinger burger, chicken is so tasty and the fries taste like proper well chosen potato’s and made in-house because I’ve never tasted fries so “real”! After our first few bites I’ve decided to write this review. We were actually on a 4 hour road trip to Edinburgh and am very glad that we drove out of the main road for 12mins to get here. The reviews are accurate and it’s such a worthy stop point.
We were a party of 6 adults and 2 kids, who had booked a few days in advance for a Saturday afternoon lunch and a couple of drinks. We were led to a downstairs table which was perfect for our party. Great buzz around the place from the customers at other tables, with a feeling of still being quite private. Ideal for conversation with the music not overly loud. Food order was taken swiftly and drinks were brought first. We had all came down from Edinburgh with only a few hours in town, so the service was fast which we appreciated. Food was excellent, portions were plentiful and tasty. Good value for money and a wide range of menu choices. Anything left on plates was because of the volume of food!! Adult portion was halved for kids; no problem for staff to accommodate this request. Cannot fault the staff on duty on Saturday 11/10 at 14:15....I was particularly impressed with each of the staff who attended to us. Would highly recommend and would definitely travel +1hour to do it again. Well worth a visit 👍🏼
