On Carlisle matchdays, The Near Boot works as a practical pre- or post-game stop. It shows live sport/Sports TV, so you can catch early kick-offs or results around your visit. The pub serves meals, including a Sunday carvery, which is useful for fuelling up before the game or grabbing food after. Logistics are straightforward too: the venue advertises on-site parking for over 40 vehicles, and WhatPub lists both parking and proximity to bus routes—handy if you’re driving into the city or coordinating with a group.
Excellent food, best Sunday lunch, too much for me, but took home what I couldn’t eat, delicious gravy. Just perfect. Breaded fish and chips are perfect, cooked to perfection, homemade chips would just make it better than perfect. Absolutely worth a visit. Staff very attentive and friendly
Booked for Sunday carvery on recommendation of some friends. Super friendly staff made us feel very welcome, the food quality and choice was excellent, also made sure our gluten free daughter was well catered for and looked after too. All round great place for a Sunday dinner and likely good any other day of the week based on our experience. Well worth a visit 😄
The food was delicious, very well presented, and smelt amazing. The atmosphere was quiet for a Saturday night. Service was good except for forgetting an order that had been added on. However, they did give us it for free. The only thing I would say is the food is very expensive. Starters range from £8-£10, mains £14-£25 and desserts from £8 too. 3 courses, plus drinks, came to roughly £50 each. I would expect this for inner city Birmingham or London, not Carlisle. It seems very overpriced for where it is and for what you get.
Been here twice and both times the welcome, service and food have been spot on, Cumberland sausage with spring onion mash 😋
The Near Boot more than impressed. I found myself spoiled for choice on the menu - it isn't hugely extensive (which is a good thing) but every dish appealed and it was a real struggle to choose. With fish, game and meat from local suppliers in Carlisle, various dishes down to the monkfish scampi are homemade. In true Cumbrian fashion, the portions are also overly generous. Never a bad thing! As a bonus, it was great to see Heineken zero on draught at the bar, which made it an easy decision as the driver. Will certainly be going back.
