📍 0.8 miles from Brunton Park
Central and handy for matchdays: guides list The Howard Arms as a pre-match option close to Carlisle station and the city centre, useful when walking towards Brunton Park via Warwick Road. It serves real ale (Theakston Best Bitter as a regular, with guests) and offers home-cooked food, so fans can get a pint and bite before heading to the ground. Carlisle United’s own advice says away supporters can generally use any pub in the city (except specific home-only venues), making the Howard Arms a practical spot for mixed groups of home and away fans.
So glad this pub re opened after closing previously in 2023, as it has kept its elements as an old pub magnificently! This is done with the old decorations like clocks and ornaments on the shelves, as well as shiny gold lining. The counter is very stylish with this, seating is so comfortable and I had a refreshing pint of Strongbow Dark Fruits!
Great pub with fantastic food and staff. We got lucky as last walk ins for the Sunday Roast and it didn't disappoint! Definitely recommend booking ahead. Pub is dog friendly and Daisy certainly approved.
Found this one by Google search. The outside is of a typical pub facade that was the fashion many years ago. Dont be put off by it appearance from the outside because it serves some brilliant meals in what is a tardis once inside. Has a one way system around the inside that works really well for these covid times we live in. Will say the chips were the best that I have tasted for as long as I came remember. Crisp on the outside and lovely soft fluffy inside. Of the meals we had nothing when to waste and there was plenty of it.
A really homely vibe to this quirky pub (which is also dog friendly 👍). We were made to feel very welcome by Ethan and team. A great choice of food - totally recommend the macaroni, cheese with chorizo. Nice beer garden too. The milk churn stool is fabulous!❤️.
