📍 2.3 miles from JobServe Community Stadium
Central High Street location makes it an easy city-centre meet-up before heading to Colchester United on matchdays. The venue shows live football (e.g., England games) on screens, so you can catch fixtures pre- or post-match. It serves a full smokehouse menu, useful for lining up before kick-off, and spans multiple floors including a tap house space suited to groups. If you’re meeting in town first, fans can use the matchday shuttle from Colchester North station to the JobServe Community Stadium, making a city-centre pub like this a practical base.
I've been coming here since the week the venue opened, but today was the last straw. We booked a table for 1pm. We were seated at 1pm. It wasn't until twenty past that someone came to take our drinks orders. We asked to order food at the same time, but "the system doesn't let us do that". 30 minutes after seating our drinks arrive. 35 minutes after seating we place our food order. It was another 55 minutes before our food came, which was a simple order of burgers and sandwiches. We saw it sat under the lights for at least ten minutes before it was brought to us. When we finally got it, it was cold. Didn't bother to complain as none of us had another hour to wait for a replacement. At no point did anyone warn us about the lengthy wait, nor apologise for it. Simply not good enough.
Brilliant experience - I hosted a charity quiz event. Every member of staff was polite, attentive and friendly. It’s clear that the TWM team go above and beyond. Special thanks to: Riordan, Becca, Gabby and Nick.
Really nice and easy going bar with really friendly staff! A wide variety of drinks and great music to set the atmosphere! Really can’t go wrong here!
Excellent micro brewery in historic Colchester. Friendly staff and a good selection of beers. There are outside tables but not all have shade. The affiliated 3 Wise Monkeys burger joint is next door if you want food.
My daughter suggested we visit the Tap Room but we landed in the bar. It was busy but we were able to get a seat. Beer range was very good but they do swap them between the bar and Tap Room so wasn’t able to try one of their beers I was looking forward to trying. That said, the beers we did try were excellent. I did also try a local gin (Moatwood - also very good) but was a little disappointed by the number of flavoured spirits and would have preferred to see more unflavoured local varieties. It does have a younger vibe but if you are that little bit older you will be made to feel welcome but just accept that on a Saturday night it will be loud. Definitely worth a visit to try their brews.
