Handy for matchdays: it’s a town-centre pub close to Colchester Town railway station (listed as “Close to Railway Station”) and bus routes, so it’s easy to reach before and after games. The pub serves food every day with advertised meal times (lunchtime and evening), which suits pre-match meals or a bite after the final whistle. It’s also listed among Colchester pubs that show live football, so you can catch early or late kick-offs around your fixture.
There Purple Dog is a great, centrally located pub. Super friendly staff. The food was a step above regular pub grub. The burgers were great with fresh dressing and veg which were tasty in their own right. We are eating there again tomorrow, highly recommend.
Very atmospheric and well-kept place. We went there on a Friday evening and it wasn’t as busy as usual. Got a table very quick, drinks and atmosphere were good, food was quickly served and very tasty. Desert was also a fine little treat. Definitely worth a try.
Come here many times for a Roast Dinner and never been disappointed. Service is friendly and good paced and the portion sizes are good as well. We had a slight issue with the veg being missed off one plate but they have immediately prepared a brand new roast straight away. Always a good recommendation.
Day out in Colchester and this was my first call. Arrived at 11am just as it opened. Nice bright pub with friendly staff. Obviously had pick of tables so sat on a comfy chair to watch Winter Olympics.. Nice selection of ales and the Adnams Ghost Ship was in good condition. Nice beer garden, clean toilets and dog friendly.. A++
Very clean wine glass and friendly staff. Welcoming atmosphere to all.
