📍 2.1 miles from JobServe Community Stadium
Town-centre pub on North Hill close to Colchester Castle, handy as a meet-up before heading to Colchester United. It shows Sky Sports (and has previously advertised Sky & BT/TNT Sports), so you can catch early/late kick-offs. The pub serves food with stated kitchen hours across most matchdays, making it practical for pre-match meals. WhatPub lists it as close to bus routes and about 1.1 km from Colchester (North) station, helpful for onward travel to the JobServe Community Stadium.
I visited the marquis this afternoon for a pint. The dark haired girl behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. She was very helpful answering my questions about the venue. The pub was very tidy, no empty glasses or clutter around. The only downside to my visit was that there werent many punters around and the atmosphere was genuinely quiet.
A fantastic pub at the bottom of north hill. Great service at all times and they do great food and good offers too. Fantastic bar garden and also show live sport. The pub has a lot of character due to being founded in 1520.
Great pub, even better service from the barmaid, whose name i believe was Denise, who had dark hair and glasses. She was absolutely brilliant, very engaging and very welcoming.
Good place to watch sports. Good sized beer garden. Good range of drinks
Google maps says kitchen is open all day. Staff informed us kitchen opened at 6:30PM. Waited for 45min, then we were informed they wouldn’t serve food as there was a table of 11 they had to prioritize and the kitchen unfortunately didn’t have enough staff. The outside area is nice in the summer, staff is polite, but customers are hangry.
