Handy for matchdays thanks to its central location: the pub states it’s a short walk from Colchester Town train station and the East Hill bus stop, so it’s easy to reach before or after a game. It serves food with clearly published kitchen hours (including Fish Fridays and Sunday roasts), which is useful for pre-match meals. The bar shows a varied line-up of cask and keg options, including well-known brands visible on the taps and pumps. Late opening on Fridays and Saturdays (to 00:30) also suits evening kick-offs or post-match socials.
Since retiring I have taken up walking around the Colchester area. An important part of the walk is to incorporate a pub. I found the foresters in the vicinity of Colchester castle park. Inside the pub felt cosy and accomodating.a good menu and also dog friendly. As a vegetarian their menu includes good options for myself. I will at some point return to eat there.
Good food, relaxed atmosphere, excellent staff. Thank you John, we didn't catch the name of the lady working along side you, but thanks to her too. Will definitely return
Went for a Sunday roast and the beef was really tasty. Good portion size with lots of greens and gravy. The cauliflower cheese was not so cheese but equally good. Inside we got a nice family-friendly atmosphere - the only unit thing is that it was quite cold inside, so it would make it perfect if they increase the heating a bit (comment posted in February)
A little gem of a pub tucked in the heart of Colchester city centre, just by the castle and park. The atmosphere is very warm, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing. It just happened to be St Patrick's day on my last visit and the place was buzzing with friendly locals and a live Irish, couldn't resist the temptation of an Irish stew.
Great revamp by John and family. Pub is friendly and welcoming. Delicious Sunday lunch which is difficult to finish! Highly recommend.
