We absolutely love The Gloucester Old Spot. Not only have we photographed weddings here multiple times, but we also chose it for our own wedding party — which says it all really. The space is bright, colourful and full of character, making it such a great choice for a relaxed wedding reception or celebration. The team are always so welcoming and helpful, and the atmosphere is spot on for couples who want something a bit more laid back without losing that special occasion feel. It works so well for speeches, food and getting everyone together before the dance floor kicks off later in the evening. We can’t recommend it enough as a Bristol wedding reception venue.
So… On arrival the place looked great. We sat down, had a few pints with friends and the atmosphere seemed nice to begin with. Unfortunately things went downhill when it came to the food. We waited over an hour with no communication from staff about the delay. For somewhere that appeared fairly quiet, this was quite surprising. When the food eventually arrived it was very underwhelming. For nearly £20 for a burger, the quality really didn’t match the price. The chips were undercooked, the beef burgers tasted quite cheap, and the chicken burger was extremely heavy on pepper to the point it overpowered everything else. We were told the kitchen was busy, but there were no updates during the wait and no check-ins from staff once the food arrived to see if everything was okay. It’s a shame because the venue itself seems nice and the drinks were good, but based on this visit the food and service didn’t live up to expectations. I’m not someone who usually leaves reviews, but after this experience I felt it was worth sharing honest feedback.
We are still completely overwhelmed — in the best possible way — by how magical our wedding at the Gloucester old spot was. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your venue didn’t just meet our expectations — it exceeded them in every way imaginable. It felt like stepping into a dream, and somehow, everything we’d hoped for became real. Every detail was perfect — the stunning atmosphere, the thoughtful presentation, the incredible drinks, the unforgettable food — all of it delivered with such care and quality. You created not just an event, but an experience that we and our guests will treasure forever. We’ve been flooded with messages from our loved ones, all saying the same thing “That was one of the most beautiful, seamless, and joyful celebrations we’ve ever been part of.” And that is entirely thanks to you Amy and your team Thank you for your generosity, your professionalism, and your heart. We will never forget what you made possible for us !!!
The Gloucester Old Spot has quickly become our favourite local. The atmosphere is always buzzing, with a great mix of people, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful . The huge enclosed beer garden is the real star – it's colourful, has a brilliant play castle for the kids, and is completely dog-friendly . It's the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon. The food is consistently excellent and great value. Their Sunday roasts are legendary; the meat is tender, the gravy is rich, and the portions are generous . I'd highly recommend trying the sweet potato pie from the Bristol Pie Society or the Nutella doughnuts for dessert . They also cater brilliantly for dietary needs, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options readily available . The team, led by Amy, is fantastic. They go above and beyond for special occasions, whether it's a birthday party in the marquee or a relaxed wedding reception . The pub is clearly run by people who genuinely care. It's the best pub in Bristol for a reason.
We went at 4pm which probably wasn't the best idea as the place was quiet and a bit chilly. The sausage and mash was good as was the salad. The whitebait had a nice sauce but itself was floppy. The chips I imagine were reheated from lunch as they were tough but I imagine would have been lovely if fresh. My veggie burger was nice, proper homemade not some bought in patty. They also had vegan mayo which was great. Staff were very friendly and efficient. I would go again, probably, but at a busier
