On a main route from Doncaster town centre towards Armthorpe, The Sportsman is easy to reach on matchdays. WhatPub notes nearby bus routes (First 381/382) within ~50m and a large, well-lit car park—useful for meeting up and getting to/from fixtures. The pub also lists “Sports TV,” handy for keeping an eye on other games while you’re in. Crucially for pre- or post-match, the venue serves hot food daily (typically 12:00–20:00), so you can get a meal around kick-off times. The official site confirms location (Off Ledger Way, DN2 5QB) and the daily food service window.
We had a really lovely time My daughter sang karaoke for the first time, which made the night extra special for us. They’ve got a pool table that I’ve used plenty of times before, and it’s always been a good atmosphere around it. 🎱 There’s also a large selection of drinks, so there’s something for everyone. It is a bit on the pricey side, but despite that we still had lots of fun and enjoyed our time there. Overall, a great local pub with a lively, welcoming vibe. 🎉 🍻
Didn’t have food. Our server, Oliver was absolutely brilliant. I’ve been all over the world And I’ve never had customer service like it. Most attentive and sweetest guy I’ve ever met Could not do enough! This guy deserves a raise and more! The customer service that I showed us was impeccable. I also noticed that he knew other customers by name And made them feel at home and welcome! Absolutely brilliant service. Purely based on Oliver ❤️
Went for tea this evening with my husband, we ordered a cowboy burger & a ultimate chicken burger, both arrived in good time and lovely and hot fresh food. There's a good selection of draught beers & cider, reasonably priced drinks. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere of the pub was nice & upbeat there was a turn on so the pub was quite full which was nice to see. Good music, lovely landlords. We'll be back!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve visited The Sportsman in Doncaster many times now, and it’s always brilliant! Great food, excellent drinks, and the management are absolutely amazing — so friendly, welcoming and really look after everyone. Saw Ken Lambert recently and what an incredible act; he had the whole place up singing and dancing, absolute magic! Even on nights when Ken wasn’t on, there were loads of other great acts and the atmosphere is always top class. Best pub for food, drinks and live entertainment around — wouldn’t go anywhere else!
This pub isn't much to look at from the outside, but don't let this put you off. There's a large car park behind the pub too so don't drive past if it looks full. Aleisha who looked after our walking group did just that. Served beer and food with a smile and friendly chat. Really helpful The pub is pretty large, clean and comfortable. The down sides. No cask ale and only one beer. The food choice is extensive but is pub standard. That said, the food was cooked well and is very good value. No complaints from me
