📍 1.0 miles from Eco-Power Stadium
A central, station-close pub in Doncaster town centre that shows live sport on TV—handy for catching early kick-offs before heading to the Eco-Power Stadium. There’s substantial pre-match food from the pub menu and an upstairs Thai restaurant. Historically, it’s the birthplace of Doncaster Rovers and is still a popular gathering point for Rovers fans, so expect a home-leaning crowd on matchdays. Town centre to the ground is roughly a 25–30 minute walk or an easy bus/taxi hop, making The Sal a practical base pre- and post-match.
Went to the pub quiz one night, which was an enjoyable experience. We were a little put off when we were asked to vacate our table at 20:27 because "Geoff" had reserved it for 20:00. It seemed like poor practice to allow someone to reserve a table for the quiz night, and still allow them to keep it 27 minutes after their reservation time. Anyhoo, won the quiz. Won 6 free drinks. Team name was "27 Minutes Late", because we hold a grudge. Venue was good though. Ample seating outside. Where Geoff could have sat rather than kicking us out.
Great pub with a wide range of cask beers. Lovely crowd out in the beer garden. To top it all a good Thai restaurant 'hidden' upstairs - where I had the best Tom Yam soup ever
A Doncaster favorite pub, with Thai restaurant above, perfect stop off for our overnight stay in the town. Food was good, fresh ingredients & comprhensive menu of classic Thai dishes.
Nice little place, Good food. I had pizza which was really good and my mate had fried beef off the thai menu and said it was the best beef hes ever had. Good price on shandy too. It was quiz night so it was really busy but a good atmosphere
Really nice pub which I’ve visited with friends and family for a good few years. I stayed away for a good while as it’s started to get crazily busy too often and was often full of groups of people, some intent on trouble and going as a couple you’d feel walk you were walking on eggshells waiting for something to kick off. However I decided for the first time this year to give it another try. Thankfully the trouble I was put off by seems to be behind them. I’ve been twice in the last few weeks with my wife as part of both our wedding anniversary and my birthday and the pub was very welcoming. The staff were great, the atmosphere was nice and friendly. The pub really is nice, the selection of drinks is good, the food is nice and reasonably priced. The pub also has an excellent outdoor area. I don’t know the reasons for the positive change but long may it continue as I’d like to enjoy some afternoons here once the football season starts. Ladies toilets are being refurbished my wife pointed out. So another positive. As a guy, the men’s toilets are probably in need of an expansion given how big and busy the pub can get. So as a point to improve that would be it. I’d definitely recommend a visit here for both drinks and food.
