📍 1.3 miles from Cardiff City Stadium
Right in the city centre on The Hayes (CF10 1AJ), the Duke of Wellington makes a convenient pre-match base. It’s around 400m from Cardiff Central station, so you can meet in town and then take the short rail connection (Ninian Park/Grangetown) or walk on to Cardiff City Stadium. City-centre pubs are recommended neutral venues for away supporters, so mixed groups can drink together before heading out. The pub serves food daily from lunchtime into the evening, which suits pre- and post-match plans, and it regularly pours local Brains ales for a Welsh matchday feel.
I had the pub chicken tika with a pint of cider and Guiness later on. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, it also came quite fast which was nice. The staff are really friendly.
My wife and I visited because it was the final step of the Cardiff "Mystery Guide" and since were ready for a drink and meal, we stayed. The bar staff were excellent, helping to navigate the food and drink ordering app. The food was plentiful and appetising. The only potential drawback for visitors is that tables are few and far between. But I'll definitely be back for a pre-match pint of SA at the next international Rugby match.
This is a nice friendly little pub. The service is good & there's a pretty good selection of beers on offer. It also has some seating outside & that's a great place to sit in the sun & watch the world go by.
Visted on the Sunday afternoon after Wales v Scotland. Was surprised at how quiet it was but staff very efficient and they put the rugby on. Didn't eat but the food we saw being served looked really good!
The Duke of Wellington is hands down one of the best pubs in Cardiff. Amazing atmosphere from day to night, a cracking selection of drinks and a team that genuinely makes you feel welcome the second you walk through the door.
