📍 1.2 miles from Cardiff City Stadium
In the city centre beside Principality Stadium and Cardiff Arms Park, the City Arms is a long-standing matchday stop that shows live football (TNT Sports) and other sport, making it useful if you’re watching rather than attending. It’s known to get busy on event days and carries a strong line-up of cask ales. For Cardiff City away days, it’s a short walk from Cardiff Central station, where you can take the quick train to Grangetown/Ninian Park for the stadium; several away-fan guides also start city-centre crawls here. All of this makes it a practical pre-/post-match meeting point with an atmosphere that typically mixes home and visiting supporters.
We popped in for lunch and were immediately greeted warmly like long lost friends. We hail from Wyoming, USA where good home cooking is always appreciated. I asked for some soup to ward off the chill outside. I was offered a traditional Welsh lamb stew. My wife opted for the steak & kidney pie. Wow!!! My stew was unbelievable. Such great flavors. The steak pie was spectacular as well. I ordered a second bowl of stew for dessert, it is that good. My wife had a piece of local sweet bara brith cake. It tasted like Christmas. Great service and we felt both welcomed and honored to be here. Looking forward to our next visit!
It's a solid historical pub with sports TV! However, I do wish there was more seating. That was the main issue. I also wish they had more local brews. The price was good, though - £10 for two pints of beer.
Had lunch upstairs in the new Caffi Cymru of the City Arms. Menu has lots of traditional Welsh food like lamb soup and Glamorganshire sausages. I had the Faggots and mash with peas and gravy. Delicious - absolutely delicious!!! Faggots were really top quality - you could taste the difference especially with the gravy. Washed down with a pint. What a lovely lunch! Atmosphere was very relaxed in spotless surroundings. The TV "fire place" is so calming. Barman (Mark) was very friendly and so too was the waitress. Great service. Will definitely come again and try the other options, probably the Steak & mushroom pie in ale gravy next.
Very friendly pub! Came in to try some local beers, and the barman, Mark, was very accommodating and gave me information about each of the local beers. Would highly recommend, and it’s a bonus that it’s centrally located as well!
Standard traditional pub with a central bar .Good choice of real ales .service and staff good .I enjoyed my self.
