📍 2.4 miles from Bramall Lane
For Hillsborough matchdays, the Guardhouse Bar at The Garrison Hotel is a practical pre- or post-game option because it’s about 0.7 miles from the stadium. The bar and restaurant are open to non-residents and run full food menus (including Sunday lunch), so you can get a sit-down meal around kick-off times. CAMRA/WhatPub also notes the bar typically offers craft keg and a changing cask ale, so there’s usually a local beer choice on tap.
After reading the reviews we were sceptical… I o be fair it’s not a bad place, staff are really nice, car parking is easy enough and rooms were fine. I get some of the decor looked a bit in need of some tlc but it wasn’t as bad as some ppl make it out to be. There are cigarette butts and trays outside of the rooms which need addressing, the walls are thin and you can hear the other residents when they’re coming in and out, but it’s not too bad. Overall defo worth it, and would stay again, staff are very welcoming and rooms are clean.
If you arrive in Sheffield by train The Garrison is about a 25 minute ride by tram. It is located between a Morrison's and a McDonald's, very close to a busy main road. |It really should be listed as a motel as all the rooms open directly onto an external walkway, and it lacks the feeling of security that you receive from a hotel. |Having paid £200 for 3 nights in a hotel in Manchester, including breakfast, we hoped that £78 pounds for 1 night would be as pleasant, but we were disappointed. |The bedroom was clean and comfortable and extra pillows were available. Some hotels seem to struggle with lighting making it hard to apply makeup, but the vanity mirror in the bathroom was very welcome. Unfortunately the overall feeling in the bathroom was that it was dated, and I was particularly dismayed by the crack through the toilet seat, leading me to question the overall hygiene. |Once we had overcome our initial disappointment we slept quite well, although the walls are thin and you are very aware of the neighbours. I woke in the night and found it hard to get back to sleep as I could hear a man snoring in the next room. |The Garrison might be suitable for business trips, or emergency accommodation, but it's certainly not the cosy venue that it portrays itself to be.
The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable We had breakfast which was decent full Yorkshire The hotel is close to Sheffield Wednesday football ground so would be handy if staying over after a match there’s a supermarket with a petrol station next to the hotel and many places to go and have an evening meal and drinks I would use it again
What an interesting place! Loved it. If you want perfection this isn't the hotel for you but if you want clean, comfortable with a dash of history and an amazing breakfast then go and stay! Thank you to the chef for a perfect breakfast and the waitress, who was so friendly, warm yet efficient. It all so well thought out with lots of options, even to have an extra hot breakfast and being able to alter the strength of your cappuccino! Thank you! Bikers, Kim n Ju x
Sharing to all, an email that I’m sent to the manager of the venue. Who originally acknowledged the complaint on the 30th December 2025 but since this date has ignored follow ups to the complaint and clearly doesn’t have any compassion. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the venue, planning, service and the provided food during my family’s visit on 25/12/25 Christmas Day. On arrival we noticed the bar area was particularly cold and when we enquired about the heating we were informed this was a housekeeping issue but the restaurant area where we would be eating was heated and warm, No …. This was not the case throughout our time there . It was unpleasant and cold. My 90 year old Grandfather was very uncomfortable and extremely upset as were all of us! We sat with our coats on! My cousin had previously been into the restaurant area to place name cards at our planned table and discovered it had not been set correctly to the “planned” numbers for our party. There was 11 seats set and 14 of us. She was advised that we should “sit closer” on the original table and it was only after we refused to do this, that another table was acquired. The food was definitely not to the usual standard that we have experienced previously after attending over the last 4 years consecutively and not worth the £86.95 per head we had pre paid for. This situation has caused my family to have a very disappointing Christmas Day and we have made the decision not to return to your establishment.
