In Leicester city centre, The Blue Boar works well as a pre-match stop: it serves quick bar snacks (cobs, Scotch eggs, pork pies and cheese) that are available daily, so you can grab something before heading to the ground. It’s a cask-focused freehouse with house and guest ales from small breweries, which appeals to supporters looking for quality beer rather than lager-only venues. Practically, it’s close to major bus routes and Leicester railway station, making travel to and from the King Power straightforward. While it doesn’t have TVs (so it’s not for watching the early kick-off), the broader guidance for Leicester is that most city-centre bars accept away supporters, making it a neutral spot to mix with home and away fans alike.
Stumbled across this bar while looking for a pub that does flat ciders and wow what a find as they had 10 flat ciders on. Some of them “real ciders”, excellent . Even though it was only 11:50am the pub was very full. They do large cheese and onion and ham salad cobs too. Definitely on my list of pubs you must visit while in Leicester.
One of England's finest pubs. Always a good beer selection, and outstanding cobs that have gone viral more than once. Friendly, informative service, too.
Food = Leicestershire cobs.. Huge, well filled, supremely tasty and great value. It goes without saying that this is a real ale paradise with a huge range of cask ales, well kept and well chosen. As a real ale accolade from the NW this was a very impressive hostelry and not to be missed.
Great little pub with the famous Blue Board cheese and onions Cobs, yes Cobs 😏...so good we had to have two, all washed down with great pints from a good range of Beers, Ales and ciders
Wow, what a great pub! Haymarket Rapper (a rapper sword dance team from Newcastle) danced here on 14 February 2026 as we'd heard it was a good pub - and we weren't disappointed! The pub was so good we returned on Sunday for a final pint - and a cob - before returning home.
