📍 1.0 miles from King Power Stadium
City-centre location makes it practical for matchdays: WhatPub lists it 700m from Leicester railway station (handy for travelling fans). The venue serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunch with published food hours and downloadable menus—useful for pre/post-match plans. Away-day guidance notes that city-centre bars/restaurants are around a 15–20 minute walk to the King Power Stadium and generally admit away supporters, so this spot can work as a central meet before the walk to the ground.
We have visited Knight & Garter twice over the past four years, but this was our first visit since the new menu launch. We visited on a Saturday evening with a table booked for 8:30pm and arrived at 8:10pm. Unfortunately, we had to wait around 10 minutes before anyone came to the counter in the bar area to acknowledge us and take us through to the restaurant. While we understand the bar was very busy, it did feel frustrating having a reservation and still standing around unsure of what was happening. We were told someone would come to get us, but this part of the experience was not managed particularly well. The bar itself was lively with a live DJ, which was great for those just coming for drinks. However, part of the charm of the restaurant is the speakeasy style entrance through the bookcase, and this was already open when we arrived, which took away some of the surprise and impact for our group. Once seated, the staff member who brought our menus explained the specials really well, which was a nice touch. There was then quite a wait before our starter order was taken. We ordered focaccia with balsamic and oil, olives, garlic mushrooms on bread, and arancini to share between five people. The food was hot and fresh, but overall the starters felt quite average. The garlic dishes were very tangy and overpowering, the focaccia was a bit overrated, and while everything was fine, nothing really stood out. For my main, I had the rump steak with garlic chips. I specifically ordered the steak because, on the previous menu, Knight & Garter was genuinely one of the best places in Leicester city centre that I had a steak from. Based on that experience, I assumed the same standard would apply with the new menu. The steak was cooked medium rare as requested, but it was unseasoned and quite dry. The garlic chips had no noticeable garlic flavour. I ordered a mushroom or peppercorn sauce, but it was overwhelmingly full of peppercorns, to the point that it set your mouth on fire, and there was nothing mushroom about it. It felt more like a gravy loaded with peppercorns, and I needed to keep taking drinks to get through the steak. Once we had our main waitress, the service improved a lot. She was attentive and friendly, and the food was clearly freshly cooked. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and has real potential. Overall, it was a mixed experience. There were positives in the service, atmosphere, and freshness of the food, but the arrival experience, waiting times, and flavour balance of the dishes let it down. I am a bit torn on whether I would return, especially given how good the steak used to be on the previous menu.
An absolutely incredible place, just had an early valentines dinner with my boyfriend and we both loved it here. I came in a wheelchair as have broken my foot and the staff couldn't have been more accomodating- moving chairs, the table etc.. Everyone was so friendly, we couldn't fault the food and drinks and the atmosphere was so cosy and chilled. I loved my hamburger and my boyfriend loved his ribeye. The kinder beuno martini and the caramel apple mimosa though was the standout, absolutely divine🩷
We were today at this place that we've always wanted to visit for a long time and I think it was worth the wait... upon entering the first impression was a very cozy environment, everything impeccable and an excellent atmosphere. We were served by Emily, she was very polite, patient and kind, the food was excellent, we will definitely become regular customers!
"Absolutely stunning experience from start to finish! The design of this place is next level—I loved the 'secret' bookcase entrance into the restaurant. It creates such a cool, exclusive atmosphere. We came for dinner and the service was impeccable; the staff are attentive without being overbearing especially Angel!! It’s easily one of the most stylish spots in Leicester for a date night or a special celebration. Highly recommend the cocktails too
Great place for food and the cocktails are unique and delicious. There really is something for everyone and they looked after our party incredibly well. Huge thank you to the general manager Georgie and her team for helping the whole evening run smoothly.
