A solid pre-match option: it’s a traditional real-ale pub that serves breakfast and hot food daily, handy for early kick-offs. It’s within walking distance of the town centre and about 1.1 miles from Ipswich railway station, making it feasible for travelling supporters. The pub was also a focal point during Ipswich Town’s 2024 promotion celebrations as the team bus parade passed outside, showing it attracts strong home support on big football days. Away-fan guides have listed it among recommended Ipswich pubs for real ale, so it tends to work for mixed groups on matchdays.
Prices are premium but food / service are reflective of this. Food came quickly and staff very friendly. Will be returning to try breakfast! They do not serve Sunday roasts in Spring & Summer only in Autumn & Winter.
One of our favourite pubs. We love the cosy inside seating more, but the outside seating is also great. They have a nice backyard seating too. Friendly staff. We also love the food here. The fish platter and the loaded nachos our favourites. The Scotch eggs, though not with runny yolks, were decent.
Went here on a recommendation. I thought it was more of a town pub, couldn't be more wrong. Wonderful building, old floors and bottles, feels very much like a countryside pub. Staff are friendly and polite. The food is wonderful, I had a Philly Beef Cheese steak sandwich, plenty of cheese, beef cooked perfectly and a good quality roll. Cheesy chips are perfect, like chip shop chips! My fiance had belly pork, of course I tried some. Cooked perfectly, the glazed carrots were my personal favourite. Plenty of food, was very happy in the end. Will be back.
Sit in a nice quiet pub in a local area next to the park. The staff are the nicest people in Ipswich and the food was incredible, everything was fresh and full of flavour with so much attention to detail. The cider sausage casserole was the star of the table but I've been told by my dad that the burger was "the best he's had in a long time". I write this while the staff are kindly and considerately taking care of dietary requirements of their patrons for tonight's quiz. I'll be making this my future haunt along with Chirin, my pup, who appreciated a pork scratching from the bar.
Lovely pub near to Ipswich's Christchurch Park. Good range of beers and excellent wine. The food offering is great (the famous Woolpack Burger and the fish and chips are worth the visit). For early birds the breakfasts are excellent too!
