Highlighted by Football Ground Guide as a notable town-centre option for matchdays, the Nelson (Fore Street) serves cask ales and is walkable from Ipswich station (CAMRA lists the station at ~1200m). Club and away-fan guides also include it among pre-match pub choices near Portman Road—though the Station Hotel is the only official away pub—so it’s generally a mixed spot where visiting supporters can grab food and a pint before heading to the ground.
Lovely 'proper' pub. Went for Sunday lunch with my partner. Food was great. Everything was cooked well & tasted fresh. We will definitely be back.
Have enjoyed many visits to the lord Nelson and eaten there many times.however visited last Friday and ordered our usual fish chips and peas..so disappointed..battered fish was very dark and bitter tasting with inside fish dry and over cooked..can only guess that our 2 portions were double dipped?? 2 fish and chips and bottle of wine approx 65 pounds?? So disappointing unlikely we will eat there again..have to say previous visits were good..such a shame such a nice pub and atmosphere..hate giving this poor review..something wrong on this nite..so sorry..
Nevwr tried food but a lovely olde worlde pub unspoilt with no fruit machines
I attended this venue for their monthly quiz this evening, and would strongly encourage everyone to boycott a venue wherein blantant cheating is permitted whilst charging 3 pounds pfor person to pay while said farce unfolds. It is clearly stated that teams must be between 2-6 people, yet the team with the friends of the quizmaster contained 7 members. Interestingly, said team were able to win more points than it mathematically possible to score, and even Rachel Reeves may have been able to work out! Said team also clearly favoured in a creative project. This pub clearly takes patrons for fools and this type of shambolic and obvious corruption has no place in Britain.
recently visited the Lord Nelson Pub in Ipswich, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. The pub, located in the heart of Ipswich, has a charming and cozy atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. The interior combines traditional and modern touches, with wooden beams, dim lighting, and rustic furniture that create a relaxed and welcoming vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive, greeting me with a smile and ensuring I had everything I needed throughout my visit.
