On matchdays The Plough is popular with football supporters and shows Sky Sports and TNT Sports, so you can catch early kick-offs or post-game highlights. It’s a central Ipswich pub with many bus services stopping on Dog’s Head Street and the adjacent Old Cattle Market bus station, making it handy for travelling to and from the game. The kitchen serves food from 11:00–21:00, which works well for pre- or post-match meals. Real ale is a focus here, with regular cask lines (e.g., Greene King IPA and Sharp’s Doom Bar), adding to the classic matchday pub feel.
Not our first time at The Plough! Thought we would give their bottomless brunch a go, which is available daily at the unbelievable price of £34 per person! Wow! I can honestly say this was one of the best bottomless brunch experiences I have ever had. The food was hot, fresh, and super tasty. We opted for a noon booking, and our server, Alfie, was incredibly attentive. He knew the drink menu inside and out. I like to sample different options, and if I wasn't keen on one, he happily swapped it for something else listed on the menu. The bottomless brunch has its own dedicated menu, so there is absolutely no confusion as to what is included. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will be booking again soon without a doubt. As an added bonus, the toilets were spotless, the venue has great disabled access, and it is perfect for both groups and couples!
Andrea who served us was incredibly rude. Just after I had asked for a beef roast I politely said ‘sorry to be a pain but could I swap the beef to turkey’ she said ‘god there’s always one isn’t there’ I laughed thinking she was joking but she proceeded to give me a dirty look and carried on putting the order in. Somebody really needs to have a word with her and teach her how to smile. She was also very rude to my mum when she asked roughly how long the wait for food was by replying ‘well I don’t know how many tickets there are I can’t see’ in a very rude tone. Shocking customer service, didn’t pay £60 for 3 meals to be spoken to like she did. The food was nice however we got a roast which came with unlimited roast potatoes, yorkshires and gravy which we asked for when our food came and by the time we’d finished our meal they still hadn’t come, I asked for some mint or cranberry sauce and the waitress came over once I had almost finished eating and asked if I still wanted it. Overall not a great experience.
OK "shabby chic" pub near the bus station. Friendly & clean enough with a selection of beers & the usual Pub Grub staples of burgers, basic Currys & grilled meat all with chips & fairly priced for the standard. Sky sports, fruit machines & a corporate mix track complete the look. Good place to go when waiting for a bus.
Found by accident, great pub with a brilliant band. Just what we needed.
Great location next to Eastern Counties bus station and a short walk to shopping area. Food was very nice and a good price, we ate from the sharing platter and drinks reasonably priced. Toilets clean . I can imagine it would get very busy weekend evenings, we were there weekday lunchtime and even then it was quite busy
