📍 0.5 miles from Portman Road
Handy for Ipswich matchdays: the Mermaid is roughly a 10–15 minute walk from Portman Road (about 2,297 feet) and shows live football on Sky Sports and TNT Sports—useful for early kick-offs or post-match games. It also serves food all day, including a carvery and pub classics, so you can eat before or after the match. Combined with multiple screens and a full menu, it works as a practical pre- or post-game stop for supporters heading to or from the ground.
My sister and I were invited by a family friend to enjoy lunch at her local pub. I opted for the delicious Scampi & Chips, which came with garden peas and tartare sauce, all for a very reasonable £8.49. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, and the staff were polite, attentive, and welcoming. The men’s restroom was clean and well maintained. We had no problem finding a parking space, although this can be challenging during busy periods. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and had a wonderful time.
Hello every one. It's Sammy from the mermaid club. We come every four weeks and we are never disappointed. The food is delicious. The staff are always kind to us. Bex has always got a smile for us and will help me. The mermaid is very welcoming to people who are in wheel chairs and are disabled. See you all soon from the mermaid club.
We used the Mermaid as a base to explore the area and to meet with friends. Accommodation was very comfortable and clean- nothing fancy but we are only sleeping here. Breakfasts have been good- no fancy tea choices just basic tea and coffee. Breakfast servings are good. Dinners have been typical good pub food and tonight we are having the carvery. It looks very good. Would I stay here again? Yes because it served my purpose, was comfortable, clean and easily accessible with great parking.
Just a quick stop after a festival meeting. Walked into The Mermaid wanting a cooked breakfast. We had a friendly welcome from Bex, who apologised as the kitchen was closed as it was 1030. But she said she would check with the kitchen, Bex came back and said it would be fine and the kitchen could do a breakfast for both of use. Bex was very friend and professional, great personality for front of house. Breakfast came out fresh and really well presented, toast fresh orange and clean table. What a great suprise for a small amount of money. Cheap price but great service. 100 % recommend just on staff service and front of house and kitchen Thank you Bex and Nick
Better than average Marstons pub. Carvery is very good. Spacious with plenty of indoor and exterior seating. Staff are attentive and helpful. Busy on match days with adapted menues depending on KO time. Accommodation is basic but clean and affordable - rooms are larger than you might expect. Walking distance from the Quay (30 mins) and close to the football club. We thought it was good and would stay again.
