In Hull’s Old Town at 54–56 Market Place, this Samuel Smith’s pub is close to transport for matchdays—WhatPub lists it as near bus routes and about 900m from Hull railway station. It opens from 11:00 most days (12:00 Sunday), making it a practical pre-match stop. As a Sam Smith’s tied house it serves real ale (Old Brewery Bitter), and reviewers note classic Taddy Lager, while several small rooms including a snug provide a more traditional, quieter setting for groups meeting before heading on. These features make it a convenient central pint before traveling to and from the game.
Sam Smith's pub. No phones or tablets, just the good old face to face conversation and fun. People might see this as a disadvantage, but I feel it's refreshing. The staff are great and my faves are: chocolate stout that tastes like actual chocolate! Some nice fruit beers. Can't go wrong with the lager of course. Beers can be bought for takeout. Pool table upstairs for those who like pool. Overall a nice good old fashioned pub with nice quiet atmosphere and historical Hull prints on the wall.
My first time trying a Sam Smiths pub and I did like it. Its very different to all other pubs due to no mobile phones, no children etc, its a place to chat. This particular pub is down a narrow alley, just look out for the large blue bell to the right of Trinity Market entrance on Market Place. Nice friendly staff, the pub had a real coal fire which was rather nice and some good ales and a Sam smiths cider which was good. I would recommend this pub if you want a proper traditional pub experience free from digital extractions of modern life
Gorgeous pub, have been coming here with my grandad for nearly 10 years to play some dominoes and have a pint 💕
Outstanding pub! If you like tradition, good beer, proper conversation then this is the place for you. Thankfully totally unspoiled by dreadful ‘modernisation’ schemes that have utterly devastated so many pubs. This is not the place to take children or phones.
Good old fashioned pub with decent beer. Full of character. No phones allowed so can't upload photos!
