📍 2.9 miles from The Coventry Building Society Arena
Football guides for Coventry City recommend the Golden Cross as a city-centre option near the cathedral quarter for matchdays. It’s about 950m from Coventry railway station, making it a convenient meet before heading to the CBS Arena. The pub runs a full food menu with clear kitchen hours and regularly serves real ales (e.g., Bath Gem and Titanic Plum Porter), which suits pre-match meals and drinks. Note they state they do not have Sky or BT/TNT Sports, so it’s better for pre/post-match rather than watching the game on TV.
During my visit to the UK, I had the pleasure of dining at the Golden Cross in Coventry, and I’m so glad I found this gem. I ordered the traditional bangers and mash, and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked sausages, creamy mash, and rich gravy that tied everything together beautifully. It was exactly the comforting British meal I was hoping for. The cider was excellent as well, refreshing and full of flavour, a perfect pairing with the meal. What truly made the experience special, was the historic atmosphere of the building. The character, charm, and sense of history created the perfect setting for a memorable dinner. If you’re looking for great food in an authentic, historic environment, I highly recommend it!
Usually a good selection of real ales and a few lagers at decent prices. Food menu comprehensive but can't comment on quality though others seemed to enjoy the food. Fascinating interior from the pre war Medieval history adjacent to the Cathedral. Definitely worth a visit.
Good pub in a good location with good beer & ok food. Worth a visit due to being close to the Cathedral & Museum. & A solid 4 stars ✨✨✨✨
Recently visited the Golden Cross, whilst in Coventry. Pleasantly surprised to find that they have a Gluten free kitchen. The food was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Will definitely visited again when next in the area.
Lovely food, and staff and menu are amazing with allergies, I could eat anything on the menu safely (I’m coeliac) and not feel like the I’m odd one out or an inconvenience. Have been here a few times now and will keep coming, very happy!
