City-centre pub recommended by Football Ground Guide as a city-centre option for away fans. It’s easy to reach on matchdays: WhatPub lists Wolverhampton railway station (~600m) and the St George’s Metro (~400m) nearby, plus numerous bus routes, so meeting up and getting to/from the ground is straightforward. If you’re timing multiple kick-offs, the pub shows Sky Sports and TNT Sports. For a quick pre- or post-match bite they serve traditional bar snacks/cobs (lunchtimes).
Another good old fashioned pub. Happy, friendly staff and a decent drink on top. If you want to go to the beer garden beware as involves some fairly steep stairs. There is a lift available to the upstairs area
Lovely pub. Friendly, safe and well run. Staff are generally excellent. Food is limited to cobs ( bread rolls ) with a range of fillings, top quality sausage rolls and scotch eggs. I have used the Lych for four years and never found a problem with the beer or the company.
After a drink in the Great Western I moved onto the Lychgate Tavern in centre of the city. Even though this is more central it was still not overly busy, especially considering this was 8 pm on a Friday night. Sadly a sign of the times. I had a pint of BFG which I was informed is there most popular real ale. It is a light, not so heavy ale, brewed by Black Country Ales , which suited the very warm evening. There was a good selection of ales, mostly from BCA, who owns the pub. It is a nce, friendly, including dogs, cosy pub, with well kept ales and nice filled cobs if you feel hungry. Definitely recommended
Well worth checking this pub out - just up from the Posada on the right. 10 cask ales on including cider, stout & porter. The usual high standards you come to expect from all Black Country Ales outlets.
Three pubs into Albrecht's visit to Wolverhampton and another gem. Beautiful setting by the Church ( Lych Gates being where the coffin waited before the service.) The lovely one room bar is down the stairs. There is a functiion roon upwards along with toilets. A lift takes you up and down if needed. Great real ale selection. 9 beers and a cider. First ever pint from Somerset brewery Nuttycombe. Excellent. Super Cobs on sale, seems to be a Black Country norm. ( butties, sandwiches, baps, buns etc..great ..why don't all pubs do this?) Albrecht happy as a pig in poo!
