Right beside Wolverhampton’s train, bus and tram stations, the Sunbeam is an easy pre-match meeting point. It opens from 9am with food served through the day, so it works for early kick-offs and post-match eats. The pub promotes live sport on big screens and explicitly states it has Sky Sports and TNT Sports, making it suitable for catching televised fixtures. Local matchday chat also flags it as a by-the-station pre-game spot that fills up with Wolves fans, so away supporters should expect a home-crowd atmosphere here.
I recently visited this place and overall had a pleasant experience. I ordered the fish and chips, and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. The batter was perfectly crispy without being greasy, and the fish inside was fresh and flaky. It came with a generous portion of chips that were golden and nicely seasoned. Definitely a dish I’d come back for. I also tried the steak, which was unfortunately a bit of a letdown. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. The flavor was decent, but the texture was quite tough, making it a bit difficult to enjoy. It just didn’t have that tenderness you’d expect from a good steak. That being said, the service really stood out. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and professional throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. Their warm attitude definitely made up for some of the food’s shortcomings.
Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Generous portions and very tasty. Very friendly staff especially Keah. I would definitely recommend.
Myself and husband ate here on Friday for the first time. Lovely location but goodness the food needs improving. I had a vegetarian Lasagne and hubby had a New York chicken breast. As soon as the Lasagne came out which was like 5 minutes after ordering, I thought what on earth is this. Chewy sides and you can tell it had just been slapped in the microwave for a few mins. Paid £1.50 extra for garlic bread, there wasn't much of it. Husbands peas on his plate was like a large teaspoon full, the amount you would put for a kids portion and the chicken breast itself you could tell was a microwave job. I have attached the pictures so you can see for yourself 🙂
Visited here today, honestly I would not rate it at all, the bar staff are friendly, waitresses looked miserable, had lasagne and chips, chips were not cooked enough, lasagne was burnt, it was awful. Drinks were fine. I'd come back to have a drink but never food again. 3 other people I was with also had complaints with there food and we left half on our plates. If you aren't fussed how your food is cooked by all means eat here.
Absolutely love coming to The Sunbeam. The service is always amazing and the staff are so welcoming every time. Keira was brilliant and really looked after us, and the chefs Jamie & Daz made great food as always. The atmosphere is lovely, everything came out quickly, and you can tell the team work hard. I always come back here because it’s consistently great every visit. Highly recommend!
