📍 0.1 miles from Stadium of Light
Right opposite Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, the Colliery Tavern is a classic matchday stop. The pub explicitly says all supporters—home and away—are welcome, and club away guides also list it as accepting visiting fans. On matchdays they set up a marquee on the car park for quick pints, and there’s often a mobile catering van outside for burgers and hotdogs. If you’re building a day around TV kick-offs, they show live sport (including Sky Sports), so you can catch the early or late game before heading over. It’s also a short walk from the Stadium of Light Metro stop, making arrivals and exits straightforward on busy fixtures.
Really friendly landlady who loves Sunderland and clearly loves her job. Popped in after a SAFC training event with a couple of colleagues and we were greeted by a very friendly welcome. Draft Boddingtons was very nice. Ideal location for a pre or post match pint. Definitely worth a look in.
Only just reviewed this venue in the last couple of days. Consequently, there is nothing much more to add. Still love the place and is a great place to appreciate live music, with an excellent list of bands worth seeing.
The match day pub to go to, whether you're either a home or away fan. Large garden, good food and beer selection. Will visit again soon
Sunderland til i die! This is The place to have a pint before the game. Black Cats spirit truly present. SAFC Supporters more than welcomed. On match day will be busy with some food trucks outside.
Great place for a pint pre match.Me and 4 mates were down from Scotland for the Shrewsbury game.Sat out in the beer garden and spoke to many Makems. Does get very busy but we were early so no problem there, and its right next to the Stadium of Light.Great day out coupled with a Sunderland win which made it all the better.Been before, and will visit again. Thanks Colliery. 👍.
