Far out on the edge of the city where Radford begins lies an unregarded little public house, called The Good Fellow George. That is, ‘unregarded’ by me, however that now has changed. I went there with a friend for a quick pint (or two. All right, it was four in the end.) for an overdue catch up after an hour on the driving range. It was a quiet pre-Christmas mid-week evening. We got there too late to order food, but early enough to be beating ourselves up for not being able to order some as what was in front of other people looked very appetising. We had to drown our sorrows with three pints of Hawkstone and a pint of Guinness. I can only imagine what the atmosphere’s like when there are a lot of people in the establishment and would happily visit on a nice Friday evening in the summer to experience it.

Really enjoyed the Sunday Roast at the Good Fellow George today. The highlight was the crackling on the pork belly, crispy, snappable and delicious! Roasts came with the traditional accompaniments and cauliflower cheese comes as standard. Only gripe would be the inclusion of peas and the gravy was a bit tasteless. It was 2 courses for £23 and everyone left full and happy.

We were in the area and looking for a good pub that wasn't run by a big brewery. Sadly we went to the one next door first which was selling poor quality beer. Stopped in here and it was absolutely brilliant with Great staff and great atmosphere. Wish we had skipped the other places and come straight here. Would recommend

Delicious small plates, can recommend oysters, chicken, chips and charcuterie board. Some of the wines were unavailable but as the staff were really lovely and helpful alternatives were found. Tasty selection of lager and session pale ale. The staff really help provide a happy welcoming atmosphere

What a superb pub. We visited to try the Jeremy Clarkson beer and their cheese on toast. As it happens, there was a brand new menu of small plates and sides. Wow. Fantastic food. So we didn't get to try the cheese on toast, but that didn't matter as the chicken, wild mushroom, beetroot hummus, and fried potatoes were amazing. The Hawkstone beer was excellent too. Plenty of choice for beer and ale drinkers. Service was impeccable with very friendly staff who made the whole visit a joy. It's a fantastic pub with superb food, excellent beer and great atmosphere. I also like the view from the booth seating, watching the traffic pass by.
