About this Pub

The Edinburgh Castle Pub

Why it's great for Matchdays

Set in Ancoats, Edinburgh Castle has a traditional downstairs pub (walk-ins for drinks) and a full restaurant upstairs, making it a handy pre-match meeting point for food and pints in the city. The venue serves lunch and dinner across the week (with daytime service on Fridays and Saturdays) and publishes current menus. For beer-minded fans, the pub highlights a line-up of ales; CAMRA notes a house beer brewed by Ringwood, and recent tap activity shows recognisable names like Beavertown and Timothy Taylor’s poured here. All of this makes it a practical spot for supporters to convene for a meal and a quality pint before or after a game in Manchester.

The public bar has the atmosphere of a street corner local on match day ⚽️. With so much fantastic cask beer brewed locally it’s such a shame the lineup here lacks any imagination.

We celebrated our anniversary here last night. We hadn't been to the Edinburgh Castle before and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and very cosy. We came to dine here because we love head chef Gabe Lea's food who moved here from Maya. Yet again we were blown away by the menu. Locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. All the dishes we had were absolutely delicious and well worth the 2 hours travelling time to dine here. I'm sure Gabe's outstanding dishes, with his attention to detail will get his hard work recognised again soon by being listed in the Michelin guide again. With lots more accolades to follow. Well done team 👏

I had the pleasure of dining at the Bangkok Diner’s Club at Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The menu is a thoughtful take on Thai cuisine—beautifully presented, rich in flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Each dish brought a perfect balance of spice, freshness, and texture. The crispy pork belly in a rich, savoury sauce was a standout, complemented perfectly by the chicken fat fried rice and vibrant vegetables. The sides, from the delicate greens to the light, fluffy omelette, added depth and variety to the meal, making it feel both comforting and elevated. The atmosphere inside the Edinburgh Castle adds to the charm—warm, intimate lighting and a relaxed yet stylish setting that makes it ideal for both a casual night out or a special occasion. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, which really enhanced the overall dining experience. Bangkok Diner’s Club manages to deliver authentic Thai flavours while giving the dishes a refined edge, and it’s easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Manchester recently. Highly recommended.

Visited EC last night after it being on our ‘list’ for a while, it was our anniversary! Food is borderline ‘fine dining’ but rest assured it was delicious! Annoyingly they don’t serve large glasses of wine and the small glasses are expensive! That would be my only complaint I suppose! We had the Oysters, pollen sourdough, sausage, mussels, shared the Guinness pie, had a side of the chips and veg! The only reason a 3 for atmosphere was because it was super quiet in there, suppose weather was glorious and it was only a Wed evening!

All the dishes I had were amazing. The menu is seasonal , using local produce. Loved the asparagus dish, the tomato salad and the charred aubergine. They also cook proteins to perfection ! I wish every gastro pub would try to serve that top quality food. Reasonable prices. Just go!
