📍 2.3 miles from Turf Moor
Listed in an away-fan guide as a sit-down meal option a short drive from Burnley, the New Waggoners suits supporters who want a calmer pre- or post-match spot away from the Turf Moor bustle. It's a free house with a quality selection of cask ales, often featuring Moorhouse's, and recent bar activity shows brands like San Miguel and Phoenix Brewery. Food is a major focus with breakfast through dinner, Sunday roasts, and clear kitchen hours, making it easy to plan around early or late kick-offs. Located on the A682 just south of Burnley, it works well for drivers heading to or from the match.
Food was prompt and priced well. Staff very friendly. Starters, we had the salt and pepper chicken and battered cauliflower, chicken was ok, was just goujons chopped up in sweet chilli sauce with some side salad and Peppers, not what I was expecting, cauliflower looked nice but very bland, needed the curry mayo. Mains was fish, chips mushy peas and mushroom stroganoff. No complaints about fish and chips, asked for curry sauce which the accommodated but was masala type not chippy curry. Stroganoff was nice, presented well but slightly under seasoned, missus liked it. Don't expect 5 star restaurant decor and seating, it reminded me of a seaside cafe with scattered tables and chairs, or what you'd get in a care home, very contemporary but it works and always seems busy. At the end of the day, nice food for the price, no real complaints and the setup works.
This is the third time I have eaten at the " New Waggoners." Today it was lunch time, and just my son and myself. Despite forgetting that I really should have booked, after all it was 1pm lunch time, the staff accommodated us with friendly smiles. They have a Gluten free menu which is a huge bonus for me. Gluten free fish, chips, and peas was my choice. The fish was delicious and the batter was light and crispy. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit. Everything including my coffee was fresh and hot. Although I wasn't having a dessert today, there was / is a gluten free dessert option. The staff were very attentive despite being really busy. Ample car parking spaces. Toilets including disabled. All round a great lunch experience. A well deserved 5***** rating. Thank You 👍 😃 Note : Photo of fish, chips and peas is from the gluten free menu.
Went here for grandson’s birthday Beware the suet pudding is massive and filling full of good chunks of meat I had the cheese and onion pie…..death by cholesterol….. loved it very cheesy Really nice relaxing place to eat Nice views during the day as well I will be returning to try out the massive fish The steak was spot on as well
Really good food and service, reasonably priced, they fit us is last minute, even on New Year’s Day… amazing! 👍
We have been going to this place for years and the food just keeps getting better and better. All the staff are amazing but a special mention for Sara our waitress today who was very friendly and very informative about all the dishes on offer. Regards Lee G
