A practical pre- or post-match meet spot: it's a large Sizzling pub with on-site parking and sits near public transport (Perry Barr rail station is about 0.74 miles and the pub is close to bus routes). Food is served daily until 9pm, and there's an extensive hot food offering for quick, good-value meals before heading to or from games across Birmingham.
If I could give zero stars I would. Waited over a hour for food cos the chef walked out for the mouthy manager to cook the food what I can only describe as disgusting. I don’t know what was worse the managers attitude or the meal. Food would have been hotter if cooked by a hair dryer!!! Chicken nuggets well let’s put it like this a good vet could have brought them back to life! Kids food cold adult food was hilarious iv seen more chips left by the seagulls . You couldn’t pay me to go back- sort ya staff out the place is a joke!
A tough review to write because I think the people are trying hard. The problem is the food. I ordered the ultimate curry. Not good. This was because: - Curry was cold. - The naan I had to cut with a knife because it was so hard. - The meal was a lot of things that didn’t make a great meal. Better, hot & more curry is the place to start and get rid of most of the rest. Inside it looked like a nice pub. I was surprised that it closed at 9pm. Odd.
I'm writing this as constructive feedback because I like the menu here. However, I struggled during my visit today. The lady serving us— slim build with a brown bun-was polite , but there was a very noticeable and strong fish odor around her. In a dining environment, scents are really important, and this particular one was strong enough to ruin my appetite. I hope the management can look into this, as it affected my visit quite a bit.
We've been going to the Church Tavern for years, so the fact our last visit was so bad is very disappointing. The pub has changed ownership and has gone downhill quite badly as a result. Two of us want in while it was very quiet. The barman was nice enough but that's the only positive. We ordered a beef burger and a chicken burger, which should be easy enough for a pub chef to cook, but apparently not. My partner had to send the beef burger back. It looked like it had been trampled on! Complete mushy mess that took her appetite away. My chicken burger looked okay but was cold. We had a refund, finished our drinks and went elsewhere. Their excuse.....the chef is new and hasn't settled in yet! We won't be going back I'm afraid.
Used to come here a lot when it was a sizzling pub, it used to be great. However ordered some sweet honey chicken wings, only to have them come out Pink and bloody looking, took them back. Not only were they not chicken wings but thighs, their excuse for this was all our food is pre processed so we know it was definitely cooked… so it’s frozen food that is just heated up… disgusting 🤢 ordered half a roast chicken and it didn’t have any seasoning on it very bland. Partner ordered a mixed grill, which was also questionable… £50 down the drain! Will not be visiting any time soon unless something drastic changes! Update now at home with food poisoning!
