The Winning Post in Sutton is a historic pub located at 265 High Street, SM1 1LD. Originally known as The Red Lion, it gained fame in 1963 when The Rolling Stones were discovered here during a performance. The pub has since been rebuilt and is now independently operated. It features a U-shaped front bar area with a pool table and dartboard, and a function room at the rear that hosts private parties. The pub also offers a beer garden with picnic tables. While it has televisions showing sports, including horse racing, there is no specific mention of live football broadcasts. The pub is approximately 0.66 miles from Sutton railway station, making it a convenient stop for those traveling to matches. However, there is no explicit information regarding its suitability for home or away fans. Additionally, there are no details available about the food menu or beer selection.
Visited this pub recently with a friend and unfortunately had a really unpleasant experience. The venue itself is very small and felt poorly managed throughout the night. There was no visible security, and when a fight broke out the staff didn’t seem able to properly handle the situation. The atmosphere was uncomfortable, with several people openly using drugs and smoking weed in the garden area. On top of that, the owner/manager (a younger guy, possibly in his 30s) came across as rude and discriminatory, which made the experience even worse. Definitely not somewhere I’d feel comfortable visiting again.
My Mate David and I have visited this Pub 5 times and each time the atmosphere and friendly people have been welcoming. Jamie the guvenor is a top Man And the Barmaid Lorraine is WOW .
Hired the function room for a 60th birthday and I’ve gotta say that it was faultless. The food was amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. I highly recommend. They organised the dj for us so we had nothing to sort out apart from decorating the hall how we wanted it. Great job so thank you to all the staff who gave us a night to remember xx
This place is crying out for a make over! However, the staff were friendly. Toilets were clean enough. Didn't have a great ale selection so I went for Guinness instead. Drinks were reasonable priced. If you like horse racing and football then this is the place for you.
Barmaid was lovely and polite. Guinness was nice. Not many people in but it was early. Football on TV when I entered but changed to its namesake (racing) shortly after. No real ale but as I usually drink Guinness or cider this wasn't the end of the world for me. Nice clean place
