Shearer’s is inside St James’ Park at the Gallowgate end, so it’s as close to the turnstiles as you can get. The club’s page bills it as “your front row seat to all televised sport” with over 50 large screens and even live match feeds from the ground on matchdays, making it a natural pre- and post-match hub. Local guides note it’s extremely busy with the football crowd on matchdays, and the Football Ground Guide says bars at or next to the stadium such as Shearer’s generally admit away fans if they behave—so it works as a mixed, neutral meeting point. There’s a full food offering (including a specific matchday menu), which helps fans grab a quick meal around kick-off without leaving the stadium footprint.
Great sports bar inside St James’ Park with a lively football atmosphere, big screens, and solid pub food. Perfect for pre- or post-match drinks with friendly service and good portions. Loved the Newcastle United vibe and stadium views feels like part of the matchday experience. Good selection of drinks and a comfortable place to watch live sport with friends. Highly recommended for football fans visiting the stadium.
Called in for a pint, plenty of options had a few Madri's, excellent service and a great pint. Very quiet but was a Monday after the game
Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! I thought this was going to be your usual pub food but it was actually really good. "Proper"chips said my son. Really fresh salad & chicken skewers were fabulous. Staff good. Free wifi. Pleasant surroundings. Tables could do with a wipe after customers drinking have left but wiped ours with baby wipes all good 😆 10% off drinks 15% off food with our stadium tour lanyard which incited us to come here. Pleasant discovery food wise although I'm sure it gets rammed on match day 😀
A beautiful bar and definitely a must to visit. I went with my.mum and step dad. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. There was something for everyone including vegetarian options. The bar tender phoned his boss to ask if they can serve lunch earlier than 12noon and the guy on the phone said yes since we was the only people in the bar..he also helped me supprise my mum and step dad for lunch. I told him under no circumstances let them pay its on me. He said no problem . He was so polite and friendly. He deserves a raise for his hospitality and help today. The bar man severing lunchtime at opening time on 16th April 2026.
Great place, friendly staff. Went very early, recommend booking. Lots of screens to watch the football.
