The Stamford Public House is a modern gastropub located in Bowdon, just outside Altrincham. It offers a welcoming atmosphere with a variety of dining options, including an à la carte menu, lunch specials, and a set-price Sunday roast. The pub features a large function room known as 'The Ugly Duckling,' which can accommodate up to 150 guests, making it suitable for gatherings before or after matches. Additionally, the pub provides ample parking and is dog-friendly, enhancing the overall matchday experience.
Great local pub. Staff are friendly, the food is fantastic and the beer selection is awesome. We've been for both Sunday roast and the normal menu (as someone who grew up on the coast, it's hard to find decent fish and chips but the Stamford delivered!) Highly recommend!
It’s been a while since we last visited The Stamford Public House. It’s a lovely spot opposite the church and under a sprawling tree with plenty of outdoor seats - a mix of tables and benches although every time we visit it’s a little untidy and grubby - it needs a little more love. It’s Sunday lunch and we opted for the two course but shared the starter and dessert. There are good options in the menu with veggie and vegan roasts represented well. The Hummus was basic but garnished well, my partners veggie roast was delicious and enjoyed enormously and my fish and chips was of a good standard, good size serve and very nice chips. However being a fan of mushy peas I’m always disappointed when they are of the tin variety. Usually the vegan dessert option in many restaurants is SORBET!!’ However, here the vegan chocolate torte with raspberry sorbet was very respectable as many vegan desserts are frankly weird, totally over processed or tasteless. Thanks chef, my partner for once was happy to stay for pudding! Ok, the service…Orders are taken at the bar with your table number. Not sure if the server was flustered but the dessert was missed on our initial order… Maybe get the team to repeat the order back to the guests to confirm or pay more attention to guests and not themselves. The hummus arrived with no cutlery/ napkins which we had to remind the server who looked a little surprised! Is it a dish to be eaten with hands ??? We then waited quite a while for anyone to notice we had finished the starter - we again prompted the server ( I think manager ) to check on our main course. The food arrived, the plates slamming down on to the table in haste and once again we asked for cutlery. By the time we had worked out the issue with dessert order we felt like we were ‘the problem table’ with numerous servers now visiting our table double checking all was in order pfff. Being honest, the young team seemed uninterested from the get go, it was a hot day so it could have also played a part but The Stamford is not a cheap place for food and drinks. I would also of thought they would have been a little more savvy and not placed the 12.5 % service charge on our bill! As ‘service’ we did not get plus we always feel mean asking for it to be removed ! Food great, service not… Come on management, this place is good but with a little more love and attention could be great.
Visited with my family just before Christmas. Has a nice cosy/rustic pub feel and always very festive around this time of year. Was impressed with the outside Tee-pee setup too although we were seated inside. Food quality was good, I think it's independant (unlike most of the pubs in the area which are brewery owned with very similar menus). It was very busy/crammed but then it was 23rd Dec, they do have a function space aka 'ugly ducking' which they launched as a seperate restraurant concept a few years back (& seemed to be short lived). Not sure why they don't open extra space up on busy nights as it would have made the experience a little bit better - we were sat right next to a toilet door which bothered me, not ideal when you're having dinner! Would love to return, if I can sit in another area of the pub!
Awful! The only reason we didn’t complain was the fact my daughter booked it for my retirement and I didn’t want to upset her. The steak you could have soled your shoes with. It came with chips and nothing else, no garnish, nothing! The steak and ale pie was one probably bought from Aldi. In fact, I am doing Aldi a disservice! There was plenty of gravy, very little steak. The salads were good. It was probably the worst pub food we have eaten. Go to a restaurant. It will be far better and far cheaper. We will never frequent this establishment again!
Went in for a Sunday roast dinner at 6:45pm (pre-booked table). On arrival was told they’d check what was left. Confirmed all 3 meats were available but not a lot of veg left. We then felt rushed to order. Beef and Turkey were fine but the ham was tough and dry along with the 2 roast potatoes (no other potatoes). No Yorkshire puddings but replaced with pigs in blankets. Gravy already on dinner, not quite enough. Small portions of veg. The overall portion wasn’t big enough for someone with a decent appetite. The desserts were good. £27.50 each for 2 courses (£3 extra for mixed meat - although same portion size as one meat). Have had much nicer, better value roast dinner elsewhere.
