We had our works Christmas festive lunch at The Kings, Wood St, and it was amazing! A massive group of us, 45 to cater for & the service was just perfect. We had the Ballroom & the tables were beautifully set out with Christmas music playing. The team worked so hard to serve us & the attention to detail was brilliant. The food was absolutely beautiful, first class Chef’s!! Turkey perfect, vegetables just right, everything was just great. They even boxed up food to take so it wasn’t wasted. Thank you team, we had the best afternoon with you! Highly recommend!!
Both a hotel and a pub, but the pub side is rather downplayed. Even though we stayed here we never had a pint so I can't comment on the quality of the cask ale, but there are quite a few pubs selling a variety of cask ales within 100 yards. Something I found strange for what looks a bit like a pub is that the bar is emptied and locked up by 10 PM. Hotel guests after this time have to traipse round the back, dark with trip hazards, and let themselves in through the back door. Breakfast was OK, but with limited choice and needs to be ordered the night before.
If I could leave a zero star I would have. Lovely glass collector nice and polite needs some recognition for trying to do a good job. Shame about the bitchy and horrible bar staff and in particular manager. Tried to explain that I’d literally just bought a glass of wine that the young glass collector had spilt and smashed and could they please replace it. And had my head bitten off and spoken to like crap. By the bar lady and manager. Cut short a night out with the girls which wasn’t necessary. Zero customer service skills from either of them just pure rudeness
Had a psycho try to break into my room at 1am. Other than apologies - the hotel hasn't refunded my stay, or offered meaningful support. It was terrifying, and shook me for a while. I've not stayed there since which is a shame.
Lovely rooms good high street full of shops.friendly staff.can get noisy at times with bars and loud music. Shower hot but not boiling. Towels smell like they were washed in a fryer.Breakfast delicious but not hot.
