π 0.7 miles from The County Ground
The Glue Pot is a popular pre- and post-match venue for both home and away supporters visiting Swindon Town FC. Located approximately a 23-minute walk from the County Ground, it offers a welcoming atmosphere with a strong selection of real ales and ciders, including offerings from Hop Back Brewery and Downton Brewery. The pub is known for its friendly service and has been frequented by fans of various clubs, including Exeter and Plymouth Argyle, who have praised its selection and ambiance. While specific details about food offerings are limited, the pub's reputation as a gathering spot for football fans makes it a notable choice on matchdays.
Two of us in Swindon spotted The Glue Pot earlier and walked over later from our hotel. It sits at the end of Old Town, less than ten minutes from the station. A bloody good find. Big windows, bright lights and a welcoming open door. Inside, partitioned wood booths, barrel tables and a steady trade around the bar. The host, warm and welcoming; easy conversation around the room. The chalkboard lists a good selection of guest ales with tasting notes and a separate cider selection. On recommendation I had a pint of Hop Back Crop Circle, bright, clear and well kept. We stayed for another. I picked up a cheese and pickle roll from behind the bar for the next morning: a soft, generous roll with good chunks of tangy cheddar and plenty of pickle. Good value. It majors on good beer and pays attention to the things that make a true local special: friendly service, fair prices, something simple but tasty to eat, practical seating and a setup that could work on a busy night. All without fuss. It knows itself. A rare find. First choice when next in Swindon.
A packet of crisps, quick service at the bar and a snug booth with table to sit at. Pint, crisps & book = π βββ Almost nothing to the place but great beer πΊπ». I didn't know such a public house still existed. To my knowledge it is a complete anomaly. A treasure!
Nice real ale pub fairly close to the train station. A fair selection but seemed to be mainly Hopback beers, which wasn't a bad thing. Would pop in again next time i'm in Swindon.
This is a real ale drinkers dream. They have won plenty of awards. Plenty of Ales and ciders on offer at reasonable prices in a proper pub. The locals are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on offer. I visited this venue twice while I was in Swindon. I would not hesitate in returning
Had a ham and tomato roll and a pint of Entire Stout. Very friendly local.
