π 1.3 miles from The Croud Meadow
The Loggerheads is a historic pub located in Shrewsbury's town centre, approximately a 10-minute drive or bus ride from Shrewsbury Town's stadium, The Croud Meadow. This proximity makes it a convenient stop for fans before or after matches. The pub offers a selection of well-kept cask ales, including Banks's Amber Ale, Courage Directors, Young's London Special, Brakspear Oxford Gold, and Wainwright The Golden Beer, catering to real ale enthusiasts. While specific details about food offerings are limited, the pub is known for its traditional atmosphere and commitment to quality beer. Its central location and traditional pub setting make it a charming spot for fans to gather and enjoy a pint in a historic setting.
A great pub with very good real ale selection. I give the story about the landlord for a publicity stunt got a new pub sign with a loggerhead turtle on it and told everyone he was going to change it because people were confused with the sign with 3 leopards on it. Loggerhead was slang for leopard in India.
It is hard to find a pub with more awards than this. A regular CAMRA Good Beer Guide entry. Regular Cask Marque and on the National Heritage pub list. No wonder Albrecht wanted to visit. We have been here a few times in the last 35 years. Great real ale selection. Hand a pint of Bank's bitter...excellent. Four rooms surround the central bar. Five real ales plus a cider. Well worth the visit. A truely historic pub.
While our wives were shopping we came across loggerheads for a drink. Our wivesthen joined us later. The pub is unusual.with little nooks and crannies in which to have a relaxing pint in a welcoming friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended and we will call in again when we next visit Shrewsbury π
This is just one special pub. Not particularly large but seems to pack in lots of rooms into a small place. This has been the 4th time we have visited here( staying in The Prince Rupert Hotel situated in front) and have experienced great ales, a friendly welcome and best of all able to enjoy the Tuesday night open mic/ folk night which seems to attract some very talented folk from around the area. I canβt comment on the food here as we were here in the early afternoon and then the evening so didnβt require any sustenance other than the quaffable ales. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have found this pub - weβre β oldβ and qualify for bus passes which enable us to travel for free- yes freeβ on The Heart of Wales railway from Swansea to Shrewsbury- a short walk from the railway station takes you to our hotel and this great pub Heartily recommend this place π
