The King's Head is a historic pub located on Mardol in Shrewsbury, close to the River Severn and the town centre. Its proximity to Shrewsbury Town's stadium makes it a convenient stop for both home and away supporters. The pub offers a selection of ales, lagers, ciders, and soft drinks, and serves food prepared with locally sourced meat. The Grade II* listed building, dating back to the late 15th century, adds to the unique matchday experience. While specific details about live football screenings are not available, the pub's central location and welcoming atmosphere make it a popular choice for fans on matchdays.
Such a historical place, I’d love to have seen more on the walls around its history. It was very quiet when we were there, so hard to judge the atmosphere. But the staff were friendly, and the place is affordable. They have a jukebox, and a great selection of drinks. They have Bass so we were happy. The interior is gorgeous.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The King’s Head My wife and I popped into The King’s Head on the way home from a meal and were completely blown away by the welcome we received. The atmosphere was instantly warm and friendly, and it genuinely felt like one of those rare pubs where hospitality really matters. The landlord, Gordy, went well above and beyond. After a short chat he even booked us a table at another restaurant for the following night – an incredibly thoughtful and helpful gesture. The beer was excellent, clearly well kept and served with pride. What really made the visit unforgettable was Gordy’s enthusiasm for the history of the building. After I showed an interest, he kindly took us upstairs to see where the King’s Head itself was actually stored – a fascinating and completely unexpected highlight. An amazing, friendly experience from start to finish. This is exactly how a great pub should feel, and we’ll absolutely be back. Highly recommended. Thanks Gordy!!
Some amazing history here. The pub itself looks as old as it is but the real treasure is inside. Take a look at the medieval painting of the last supper on the wall just inside to the right. Some parts of the building used to be an old chapel and this painting probably dates from the 13th century.
This is an absolute Shrewsbury staple, old pub, with loads of character. The landlord is always welcoming, and a great laugh, who can't do enough to make your visit welcoming.
Will not go there again ! Ordered drinks at the bar 1x lager and 1x port , Paid for them on card because they did not except cash , then they said they’ve ran out of port and sent someone to the local shop to purchase some , unfortunately he did not return with the port after waiting almost an hour so I asked for a refund of the port , but she refused and said they don’t do refunds Very disappointed as it was there fault, and very amateur in there service
