A city-centre sports pub a short walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station, The Waldorf is convenient for supporters arriving by train before heading to Old Trafford or the Etihad. It shows live football on big HD screens and promotes itself as a dedicated football pub, so televised matches are catered for. Away-day guides specifically point fans towards Piccadilly-area pubs — including The Waldorf — and note that most city-centre bars welcome visiting supporters, making it a neutral meeting spot used by both home and away fans on matchdays.
If you’re looking for a classic British pub experience in the heart of Manchester, The Waldorf is a great pick. The place feels instantly cozy the moment you walk in, with that warm, lively atmosphere you’d expect from a proper city-centre pub—helped by the fact that they had a game on, which added to the energy. The food was solid across the board. The fish and chips were especially delicious: crispy, flavourful, and generously portioned. I also tried the loaded jacket potato, which was simple but good and definitely hit the spot. Service was prompt and friendly, and despite the place being busy, everything came out quickly. All around, a reliable and inviting pub that delivers exactly what you’d hope for. Would happily stop by again.
Been here many times down the decades & glad to see it's still going strong. Usually a first or last port of call from Picadilly Station. Usually a well kept choice of ale in this predominantly football focussed pub. I've always liked the lighting & like the raised seating by the window. On this occasion I went upstairs to the intensely bright sports bar which had an ok pint of Landlord. I tried the large fish & chips (fries) meal which was ok but a bit short on quality & quantity. The highlight was actually the battered sausage. The other downside was no soap in the upstairs toilet.
First stop after flying into Manchester for a 10-day UK trip after taking the train from the airport to Piccadilly. This is a quick walk from the station if you’re craving a bite and a pint. Rustic boozer with a certain charm. Lots of groups of friends in here enjoying beers and crisps. A warm, convivial spot with equally friendly staff. Everything was great, including the chicken sub I ordered. An impressive array of draft and cask. And man do they pour a good pint of Landlord (they’re a Champion Club member).
This is one of them places you can start or end your night or just stay in all day. Very relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of room to sit and watch sports or chat, and it's really close to the train station so shouldn't miss the connection unless you're enjoying yourself too much.
Where Social Hearts and Football Fans Unite. There’s a special kind of magic in a pub that can seamlessly host two different worlds. For me, The Waldorf is where my Wednesday evenings come alive at the Manchester Chess Club social upstairs—a warm, inviting space filled with great games and conversations. Meanwhile, downstairs hums with the excitement of the game on two wide screens, uniting City fans in their support. It’s this wonderful duality that gives The Waldorf its unique character. Its location is a major plus: an easy stroll from the train station and central hubs (though I skip the limited paid parking and take the train). Whether you're here for the football, a social group, or just a reliable city centre pint, The Waldorf delivers with charm :-)
