City-centre spot in Shambles Square, handy for shoppers and matchday meet-ups next to major landmarks. The pub shows live sport on Sky and BT, so you can catch early kick-offs or post-match highlights. Away supporters commonly use Manchester city-centre pubs before heading to the Etihad via Metrolink, making central venues like this a neutral, mixed crowd option on matchdays. A full food menu (with published serving times) helps for pre-match eats or a quick bite after the game.
My wife, daughter, and I recently revisited this delightful pub during a shopping trip in Manchester City Centre, and we cannot recommend it enough for its exceptional food and drinks. Situated conveniently near the luxurious designer shops of Harvey Nicholls, Louis Vuitton, and others on Cateaton Street, this pub is a perfect spot to unwind after a day of shopping. Upon arriving around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, we were pleasantly surprised to find plenty of tables available, allowing us to comfortably enjoy our meal. The menu is extensive and caters to a variety of tastes, offering a wide range of beers and drinks, alongside a well-curated selection of food. For our main course, we opted for the a couple of steak & ale pie meals, and a buttermilk chicken burger. Both dishes were priced around the standard range of £15-£17 each, which we found to be quite reasonable given the quality. The food was cooked to perfection, tasted incredibly fresh, and was very filling. The portions were generous, ensuring we left satisfied. Initially, we had planned to just have a main course and a drink, but the warm and welcoming atmosphere, coupled with the reasonable prices of the drinks, encouraged us to stay for a few hours. The pub also features sports on TV, adding to the enjoyable experience. As we observed other tables, the desserts looked too tempting to resist, so we decided to indulge in one each. We chose the chocolate fudge cake and a cherry tart with ice cream, both of which were absolutely delicious. The desserts were not only tasty but also beautifully presented, adding to the overall dining experience. A special mention goes to the staff working at the bar, whose friendly and welcoming service was outstanding. Their attentiveness and hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. We are definitely looking forward to returning next time we are in the city. This pub is well worth checking out for anyone in the area, whether you’re shopping or simply looking for a great place to relax with good food and drinks.
Great Sunday roast spot in Manchester! The portions are large and filling, with a choice of beef or gammon for under £15 per plate — excellent value. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. They start serving from 12pm on Sundays, so perfect for a relaxed weekend meal. Definitely recommend!
Wonderful choice of award winning Holts bitter. Went on my birthday to sample food and drink. We were not disappointed. Fabulous food and service from the staff was wonderful. Will go again without doubt. Chilled for a pint on your own at whatever time of day as well as a cheeky lunchtime wine with your food. Great place. Enjoy!
I went yesterday, it was very busy and food wasn't that bad. nachos are nice, the kebabs are nice however letting the oil and grease run onto the chips is wrong. salads are dosed in dressing and do taste nice. this place has certainly improved since the last visit.
Just a traditional English pub with great staff and great food have zero complaints. Staff are all amazing very friendly. Manager was amazing, bar staff extremely friendly very approachable.
