Grimsby Town’s official away-day guide explicitly says Tom’s Tap & Brewhouse welcomes away fans. It’s also a short stroll from Crewe town centre and about 1.4km from Crewe railway station—handy if you’re arriving by train. Pre-match, the venue offers up to 12 craft keg beers and around 15 real ciders, with current taplists showing a mix of house beers and guest brands (e.g., Thornbridge, Ross on Wye). On many matchdays you can grab a bite from visiting street-food vendors, and if there isn’t a trader, simple hot food (sausage cobs) is served early evening on Fridays and Saturdays—useful for lining the stomach before heading to the ground.
A few years ago, after hearing from friends in Stoke about a brewery and taproom in Crewe, I decided that I had to get on the train and check this location for the first time. Since that first visit, Tom's Tap has become my top brewery, and one of my favourite places. Brewed on site, Tom's has an outstanding variety of beers, ranging from Cask and specials, ( such as the coffee Porter They Saw Money, We Saw Beer) to excellent staples ( on this visit, I had The Mighty Stout- a fantastic deep Stout, made with Mornflakes oats.) Along with the beers made on site, Tom's features extensive cider options, guest cans, wines and spirits, and alcohol free/ soft drinks. Featuring a groovy chill out outside area, the beer garden is also near the West Coast railway line, which allows visitors to relax with a pint whilst watching the trains go by. Split into two large rooms, both of them have a wonderfully friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The main room where the bar is, has cosy arm chairs ( and the Little Sean mascot at the bar.) The room where concerts are held, the second room has lots of tables and chairs, allowing for large groups of family and friends to gather and catch up whilst watching live music. From my first visit, Sean, Jacqui and all of the bar staff have been absolutely extraordinary. Tom's Tap has an incredible feeling of being in the heart of the community. Every week, Tom's hosts fabulous events, from cocktail nights, quizzes, cribs and home brew club, to concerts and club nights, ( with tickets at great prices) fascinating talks with authors, tasting events, legendary bottle shares and open mic nights. All of which makes every visit to Tom an utter joy.
A huge choice of quality beers and ciders at surprisingly low prices. The beer garden is pleasantly situated next to the Manchester branch of the West Coast railway line. Frequent trains thundering past lend a uniquely Crewe-themed accompaniment to the proceedings.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Toms Brewery, and I can't say enough good things about this gem of a brewery. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a warm and friendly atmosphere that perfectly complements the exceptional brews they have on offer. Unique, original and tasty!!
Went in before the lights switch in and it's one of those bars that you regret not going to for the first time a lot sooner. Had a sample of a beer or two but decided to have the mango ice cream (weird name for a beer I know) but it was absolutely delicious. The gentleman was informing us of the events that they have in throughout the month which is also in display inside. Comfy seats near the bar that you just sink into and you can read from a selection of books on offer. One if the cleanest pub toilets I've ever been to as well. Definitely going to become one of the go to pubs from now on.
Last visit 14th February 2026. Crewe's only working micro brewery complete with taproom bar, function room, beer yard and adjacent chillout area. There is a good selection of beer styles (including guest beers), craft ciders, wine and single malt whiskey as well as a cocktail menu. Various events including live music are held on a regular basis.
