📍 2.7 miles from Abbey Stadium
The Fort St George is a riverside pub located near Midsummer Common in Cambridge, offering a scenic setting with views over the River Cam. It is situated approximately 2 miles east of the Cledara Abbey Stadium, making it a convenient spot for both home and away fans to gather before and after matches. The pub features a large beer garden and traditional interiors, providing a welcoming atmosphere for supporters. While specific details about live football screenings are not available, the pub's association with Greene King suggests a focus on community engagement and local events, which may include sports viewings. The venue's popularity among locals and visitors alike adds to its appeal as a matchday destination.
Prices not updated, the burger meat was a bit tough and dry, and you have to ask for cutlery and napkins… The rest of the ingredients were good, and the best part was the fries. The terrace and the place are very nice, right by the river. I wouldn’t come back to eat, although maybe I would for a beer or a coffee
We met for a weekend in Cambridge and decided to kick things off with a pub dinner at The Fort St. George. The location is fabulous, right next to the river, with a lovely atmosphere inside and out. It was great watching all the students out training on the water for the boat races, plus runners going up and down the riverside — very Cambridge and really added to the experience. The drinks were excellent and the atmosphere in the pub was warm and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment. For some reason we all decided to have fish and chips, which in hindsight was a mistake. The frying oil must have been very old because the fish simply didn’t taste fresh or pleasant. The batter was thick, overly dark, and greasy, and the fish itself had become dry as a result. We ended up peeling the fish out of the batter rather than enjoying it. Paying nearly £80 for a round of fish and chips that was well below standard was very disappointing and unfortunately marred what would otherwise have been a lovely evening. My honest recommendation to the kitchen would be this: if you cannot consistently prepare a dish like fish and chips to a good standard, take it off the menu. I would much rather see three dishes done properly than a fourth one that lets the whole experience down.
Alongside the river Cam. Super nice spot. Decide to order via de QR code. It doeq force you to download their app. But you can remove this afterward. Once all selected, you pay via card or PayPal. Just sit and wait, drinks arrived shortly and food not very long after. We had the rumpsteak and the fish 'n chips. Together with the scenery i did not want to leave, ohter then the maybe not so comfortable picnic benches.
Decided to have supper at this lovely pub tonight. Delightful setting next to Midsummer Common and a warm summer evening. The food tasted fine - steak sandwich was good, fish cakes were ok (not made in the kitchen) and the nachos average. The problem was how long it took to get the food. We were told when ordering that it was about a 45 minute wait so we were somewhat prepared. However it actually took 1.5 hours for the food to be delivered to our table. Ordered at 7:52, arrived at 9:20 pm And no apologies when the wait staff placed the food on the table. Jest “here you go”. And it was not particularly busy really. Ah well.
A really great pub! The location really couldn’t be better, and the prices are very reasonable. I always enjoy stopping here with my girlfriend on our walk down the Cam, it’s the best place in Cambridge for a summer pint right by the river🍺
