📍 0.7 miles from The Lamex Stadium
The Old Red Lion is a popular pre-match venue for both home and away supporters due to its proximity to Broadhall Way (Lamex Stadium), approximately a 20-minute walk away. The pub offers a spacious setting with a large beer garden, making it ideal for gathering before and after matches. It screens live football on big screens, including matches broadcast on Sky Sports, TNT Sports, and terrestrial channels, providing fans with a vibrant atmosphere to enjoy the game together. Additionally, the pub offers food deals, such as £1 kids' meals on Mondays with a full-paying adult, catering to families attending matches. These features make it a favored spot for fans seeking a lively and welcoming environment on matchdays.
The food it self was ok, but some part was missing (onion rings) and noone told as anything about it. I ordered online through the app but didn't show it it's not avaiable. Table wasn't clean on arrival and had to get cutlery my self. Chewing gum under the table stick on my trousers. Otherwise it was a mid range place with fair food.
Very busy, even though we booked, we were told a 40 minute wait for food, which was part of the reason for losing a star. Not enough staff serving, two long queues inside, just to order a drink. After the long queue and wait for the food and the order, decided to use the app to order the next round of drinks, they took over 15 minutes to deliver the drinks to the table after, I received the order confirmation email with payment taken......thought this was not very good, would have expected them (4 drinks) in half that time. The restaurant itself was lovely, nice seating area, toilets clean. Drinks were good and the food was really nice
Police arrived for the first of two visits in the space of two hours. General manager missing once again. Poorly trained staff. Partner of one of the staff getting more involved than he needed to. Come on Green King, do something. Service is awful. Place is a tip. Took an hour for glasses to be collected from the garden.
Been in Stevenage for 12 years and this is my first visit. A 20 minute stroll brought us to this more traditional looking pub. Decent size car park but be aware of some horrendous pot holes. Settled for a comfy bench table near the fireplace. The App was very easy to order from and you can remove ingredients that you don't like. I ordered a cocktail picture which took about 20 minutes to come so with this in mind I ordered another and it arrived in 2 minutes! Food was ordered A home run and bacon and cheese burger. The food was arrived hot apart from my fairground onions were cold. Still it was nice. Pudding was a very nice warmed chocolate fudge cake. All in all a nice meal.
Very nice experience. Large car park, and plenty of varied seating for all occasions. Didn't have an ordered drink in stock, but staff came over to sort extremely quickly and did so extremely well. Food was very nice, my 2 onion rings came out separately, but all was fine. Lots of choice on the menu, and some excellent great-value deals on every day. Slight wait at the bar, but many people had turned up after us, so food service was required, and bar service was resolved immediately food was served. Would go again.
