The Allied Arms is a traditional pub located in the heart of Reading, offering a selection of up to 10 ales, including local options like Loddon Hullabaloo. While it doesn't serve hot food, patrons are welcome to bring their own or enjoy snacks such as crisps and chocolate bars. The pub features a large, heated beer garden, providing a comfortable space for socializing. It's a popular spot for both home and away fans, especially on matchdays. The atmosphere is lively, with quiz nights and a jukebox adding to the entertainment. Its central location makes it convenient for those heading to the stadium or train station.
A pretty decent proper pub, enjoyed going here. Conveniently close to the Oracle and the other bars on Gun St. They had some decent beer on when we visited - Theakston IPA, something from the Loddon brewery and another. Pork scratchings. Friendly bar staff and other customers. There's a large outdoor seating area out back which was nice.
Easily the best pub in Reading. Beautifully preserved historical features, plenty of character. I was surprised how quiet it was when I visited. Guinness wasn't great and cost Β£7.25, but fantastic atmosphere nonetheless.
Really nice pub, good atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Only downside is the extortionate prices. Would visit a lot more regularly if it wasnβt for the crazy prices. Central London is cheaper!
The place is very good, everything else is alright but what are these prices my goodness! Β£8 for a pint?? Even in the most sophisticated places of London I have only paid Β£7.5 for a pint. I never thought my most expensive pint ever would be in Reading. There are many other pubs with beer garden and similar atmosphere and service like theirs but none of them charge more than Β£6.50. Even the food prices are enormously high. It's just not worth it to go again, sorry!
The pub is cozy, but the prices are above average.
